Back in September 2022 I posted on the upcoming Denon X series of 8K AVR’s, with the lowest cost option then being the AVR-X2800H 7.2 channel at $1,199.00. Well if finances are a little stretched their latest AVR-X1800H is also a 7.2 channel, 8K receiver with a similar range of features but a slightly lower power output of 80 watts per channel.

The AVR-X1800H will be available next month and has a surprising number of premium features, including; three 8K/HDCP 2.3 HDMI inputs; support for HLG, HDR10+, Dolby Vision, HDR 10 and Dynamic HDR pass through. For gamers it supports several next-gen technologies, including Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), Auto Low Latency Mode (ALM), Quick Frame Transport (QFT), and 4K@120Hz. This new model maxes out at 80 watts per channel, with a channel configuration of 7.2 or 5.2.2 if using a Dolby Atmos or DTS:X configuration. The integrated Dolby and DTS technologies are also available to add virtualized height and surround sound effects to stereo and surround content. 7.2 speaker equalization is available via Audyssey’s MultEQ XT room-correction technology and includes Audyssey Dynamic EQ and Dynamic Volume.

Supported file formats include; MP3, WMA ALAC, FLAC and WAV at up to 192kHz/24 bit. It is also compatible with 2.8/5.6- MHz DSD files and you can play HD audio tracks from a USB drive, connected drives, over its network or from Amazon Music HD (with subscription).

Control of the AVR-1800H is avilable via its front panel, supplied RC1257 remote, Denon iOS or Android control app. or via; Apple Siri Voice Control, Josh ai and Amazon Alexa.

Rear panel connectivity still provides six HDMI inputs, three of which support 8K but only one HDMI output that also supports both ARC and eARC. Analog input connectivity is provided via two pairs of line level RCA and one pair of phono RCA connectors. Analog RCA outputs include; Zone 1 and Zone 2 and a pair parallel subwoofers. Digital connectivity is supported on one coaxial and a pair of optical connectors, with network support on an Ethernet RJ45 connector. Other connections include; a USB power only, signal grounding lugs, IR in, AM and FM antenna plus the seven pairs of speaker binding posts.
