Accuphase has unveiled its DP-470, a premium CD player and DAC that brings technologies from the flagship end of the range to those not yet ready to give up on physical media. The DP-470 is to replace the outgoing DP-450. This new model also doubles as a serious digital-to-analogue converter (DAC) and borrows selected engineering from the company’s higher-ranking DP-570S SACD/CD player. It can operate as a standalone hi-res DAC via USB Type-B, coaxial, and optical digital inputs, while coaxial and optical digital outputs let it operate as a transport for an external converter. The model measures 465 x 151 x 393mm, the same as the outgoing DP-450, and weighs in at 13.7Kg (30.2lb). US pricing is $9,999.00.

This Red Book CD only player uses a high-rigidity, low-centre-of-gravity mechanism design intended to isolate the optical pickup from vibration, while an elastic damping system sits between the transport and loading assembly. There is also an eight-pole neodymium magnetic disc clamp and a three-layer bridge structure to help suppress chassis resonance and airflow noise from the spinning disc. The tray is machined from a single aluminium block, and high-carbon cast-iron feet provide further mechanical isolation and damping.
Accuphase DP-470 CD PlayerThe internal electronics is designed around an ESS ES9026PRO 32bit Hyperstream II 8 channel DAC arranged in Accuphase’s four-circuit parallel MDS+ architecture, with four DAC circuits working in parallel to improve noise performance, distortion, and linearity compared with a single-circuit layout. While the DAC and power supply layouts have been optimised, keeping the analogue and digital sections on separate supplies to reduce interference.Additional noise reduction is provided by Accuphase’s Noise Cancelling Circuit (ANCC), used in the current-to-voltage conversion stage as used in the DP-570S. The circuit uses a secondary amplifier to cancel noise and distortion generated by the main amplifier.Accuphase DP-470 CD PlayerRear panel analog connectivity includes; 1 x stereo XLR and RCA line level outputs that are level adjustable (0dB to -60dB in 1dB steps) with phase inversion support for the XLR outputs. Digital input connectivity includes; 1 x coaxial I/O, 1 x optical I/O and 1 x USB input plus 1 x coaxial and 1 x optical transport outputs.
