PMC Launches Twenty5i Active Speaker Range

PMC, who are well known for there professional studio speakers, have just launched an active version of their popular home audio Twenty5i speaker range. This new active range mirrors the passive models featuring four of its two-way models but now with built-in amplification. The models include; the Twenty5.21i and Twenty5.22i Active stand versions and Twenty5.23i and Twenty5.24i active floor-standing models. For those original purchasers of the passive models, an upgrade kit will also be available. There are no current plans for an active center speaker.

According to PMC each driver has a “dedicated and perfectly matched” 100W amplifier, jointly providing 200Watts of power per speaker. The amplifier design uses direct coupling to the drivers that is said to result in improved damping creating superior control and increased transient response. They also use a dual-band power limiter, for non-invasive driver protection. The passive crossover is now replaced by an active analog design that is specifically tailored to each model, and being active supports components that have improved tolerances over their passive equivalents.

The upgrade kit, that fits all four models, slots neatly and simply, in just a few minutes into the speakers rear panel, replacing the existing integrated passive crossover. Users only need to select their appropriate model setting from the Twenty5 range (21, 22, 23 and 24) by using the supplied plug and socket, allowing for simple installation and setup. Analog input connectivity includes, balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA connectors. No digital inputs are provided. A switch is also available to adjust the speakers gain/sensitivity by 10dB.

Finally, all models come in either a Walnut, Oak or Diamond Black finishes.
