KEF have just released a more cost effective version of their popular LSX II streaming active speaker, the LSX II LT. This new model is aimed at music streaming, computer audio and television usage hence the all digital rear connectivity that includes; USB-C for computer desktops, HDMI ARC for TVs and TOSLINK for games consoles and CD players. With construction similar to that of the LSX II.

Like the LSX II, the LT version is also designed around the KEF W2 streaming module but does not support Roon like the LSX II. This is not a real issue as Roon will stream to the LSX II LT’s Apple AirPlay 2 and Chromecast inputs. With Ethernet or Wi-Fi supporting the KEF Connect app giving the user access to; Tidal Connect, UPnP, Qobuz, Deezer and Amazon Music. Bluetooth rounding out the connectivity options.

The drivers Class D amplifiers and DAC’s are the same as those found in the LSX II, with each driver having its own DAC. The drivers are composed of a 4.5″ mid/bass unit that coaxially surrounds a tweeter, with 70 watts driving the bass/mid unit, 30 watts driving the HF unit. Crossover between drivers is performed using the same DSP that also optimizes the speakers overall acoustic performance.

Connectivity between the primary and secondary speakers is performed using a 3 meter SPDIF KEF proprietary C-Link cable that supports 24bit/96kHz. This same cable also provides power to the secondary speaker. An 8 meter cable is also available.

For those needing a little more bass the primary speaker provides an unbalanced RCA sub out. Finally, this new design is available in Graphite Grey, Stone White or Sage, all having done away with the original’s fabric covering.
