Short on space? Is that “special someone” putting the damper on that pair of “unsightly” subs you want? Not too sure what to spend that COVID check on? Then take a look at these diminutive micro subs that will rock your world. All in a volume of less than one cubic foot.

This micro subwoofer is SVS first venture into the marriage between the innovations from the reference SVS 16-Ultra subwoofer, a pair of fully active opposing 8-inch drivers, and an 800 watt RMS, 2,500 watt Peak Power Sledge STA-800D2 amplifier with discrete MOSFET output. Featuring the SVS subwoofer control smartphone app for advanced tuning and DSP control.

By moving in opposite directions, any mechanical energy transferred to the cabinet is virtually canceled out as the drivers are connected in parallel to the single 1000W RMS power amplifier, both receiving the same amount of current. This creates a sonically inert environment and solves a longtime problem of micro subwoofers, which can move around your room. These high-excursion, custom drivers employ a progressive inverted surround to ensure maximum linear displacement allowing for the massive amounts of air movement required to generate room-energizing bass.

All of this is contained inside an enclosure made with extra-thick MDF side baffles and rigid internal bracing to ensure an acoustically inert environment. This bracing together with acoustic absorption is said by SVS to “eliminate all coloration from the cabinet, even when the deepest low frequencies are played at reference volume”. Finally custom iso-elastomer screw-in feet reduce noise artifacts and improve stability.

Keeping this all under control is the 800 watt RMS, 2,500+ watt peak power Sledge STA-800D2 power amplifier that combines the high-current output of discrete MOSFETs with Class D efficiency and the processing power of a 50MHz Analog Devices Digital Signal Processor (DSP). With 56 bit filtering and sophisticated multi-band limiters this DSP optimizes the cabinet, driver and room response curves to; “maximize on the potential of a room’s boundaries to produce greater output and deeper bass extension without bloat or roominess.”

Local access to the DSP functionality is via the buttons and LED displays on the rear-panel SVS Intelligent Control Interface (ICI) that provides both control options and connections for the subwoofer’s most critical functions to include:

  • Level Control
  • Low pass filter control
  • Phase control
  • USB port provides power for the SVS SoundPath Wireless Audio Adapter (sold separately)
  • RCA audio line level input
  • RCA audio HPF filtered line output

Finally for all those of us that do not want to leave our seats to optimize the sound, the Smartphone App provides the ideal way for you to sit at your MLP and adjust all the DSP parameters to your hearts and ears contentment. Connecting using bidirectional Bluetooth, and running on iOS, Android, and Amazon operating systems, it is a convenient way to control volume, access multiple DSP functions, and program custom preset for one-touch tuning optimised for music, movies and gaming. Furthermore you can customise crossover frequencies, a three-band parametric EQ, polarity, room gain and more.

KEF KC62

Wanting that chest thumping bass but put off by bulky subwoofers? Then the KC62’s patent-pending Uni-Core™ technology uses the traditional force cancelling technique to deliver deep accurate bass from a micro cabinet, by combining both drivers into a shared magnetic system.

This football sized cabinet is created from extruded aluminum providing form, function, strength and beauty, and contains the two 6.5 inch force cancelling drive units that are each powered by 500W RMS of specially designed Class D amplification.

According to KEF the patent pending Uni-Core design that uses a single combined motor system with concentrically arranged voice coils can exceed the driver excursion of a much larger subwoofer while reducing the cabinet size by over one third.

The patent pending Smart Distortion Control Technology that uses sensor-less motional feedback keeps distortion to a minimum by measuring the current in the voice coils and detecting and correcting any non-linear distortions.

Additional control and fine tuning is applied by the way of the in-house designed Digital Signal Processing (DSP) algorithms referred to as KEF’s Music Integrity Engine. These algorithms; including iBX (Intelligent Bass Extension) and SmartLimiter continually analyze the signal to prevent clipping and further reduce distortion.

The P-Flex driver surround has a unique pleated design and is engineered to better resist the internal cabinet acoustic pressures thereby allowing the driver to move more precisely compared to traditional surround designs.

The KC62’s twin drivers are powered by 2 x 500W RMS of specially designed Class D amplification, each 500W amplifier driving just one voice coil for a total drive power of 1000W RMS. There are also five pre-set Room Placement Equalisation modes to ensure the KC62 performs in any residential location – room, wall, corner, cabinet, or apartment modes. Additional controls for manual adjustment include:

  • Sub level
  • Crossover frequency: 40Hz-140Hz
  • Phase: 0/180 degrees
  • Line output high pass filter selection: Bypass, 40Hz-120Hz.
  • Ground lift

To round off the KC62’s performance it provides a range of connection options allowing it to work with almost any audio system:

  • KEF SmartConnect
  • A HPF line output to drive satellite speakers
  • RCA audio line level inputs
  • Speaker level inputs
  • Wireless compatibility with the KW1 adaptor kit
Brief Specifications:
  • Design – Uni-Core Force Cancellation using dual opposing 6.5″ drivers
  • Frequency Response – 11Hz to 200Hz +/-3dB
  • Max SPL – 105dB
  • Amplifier – 500WRMS x2 (1000W) Class D
  • Dimensions – (HxWxD) – 9.68″ (246mm)x 10.07″ (256mm) x 9.76″ (248mm)
  • Weight – 30.9lbs (14Kg)
