B&W Introduces 800 Series Signature Speakers

UK speaker manufacturing company Bowers & Wilkins are well known for their range of high-end audiophile speakers. The recent release of their 800 Series Signature models contains two new bass reflex designs; the new 801 D4 Signature floorstanding model and the compact standmount or bookshelf 805 D4 Signature with a more compact footprint.

801 D4 Floorstanding Model

A 3 way floorstanding speaker featuring the brand’s 25mm (1″) Diamond Dome tweeter-on-top, a 150mm (6″) Continuum Cone FST midrange drive unit, twin 250mm (10″) Aerofoil Cone bass drivers with upgraded and improved magnets to their motor systems and a new crossover.

B&W Introduces 800 Series Signature Speakers

Additional improvements and refinements include;

  • An enhanced aluminum top plate beneath its Turbine Head midrange enclosure aimed at reducing unwanted resonances from the top of the enclosure
  • The bass reflex port is now cast from aluminum, designed to create a stiffer and quieter structure less prone to unwanted port noise
  • An upgraded crossover with new and improved capacitors and
  • An FEA optimized design of tweeter grill mesh that provides an increase in energy radiated into the room.

805 D4 Standmount/Bookshelf Model

A 2 way standmount or bookshelf speaker featuring a 25mm (1″) Diamond Dome tweeter-on-top with an all-new grille mesh, plus a new 165mm (6.5″) Continuum Cone FST mid/bass driver and an upgraded crossover with new capacitors.

This new design of the 805 D4 also includes; mechanical revisions to its aluminum top plate aimed at further reducing unwanted noise and vibration from the structure.

Both the 801 D4 Signature and 805 D4 Signature come with speaker binding posts that support bi-amping and use the new Continuum™ cone FST™ mid/bass driver.

Finally both models and are available in two new finishes; Midnight Blue Metallic or California Burl Gloss wood veneer.
