Bowers & Wilkins Announces New 600 Series 3 Range

UK speaker manufacturing company Bowers & Wilkins are well known for their range of high-end audiophile speakers. The recent release of their 600 Series 3 are the latest installment of the company’s 600 Series, the second longest running series since the 800 Series Diamond. This new series is comprised of four bass reflex designs;

  • 603 S3: A floorstanding speaker featuring an all-new 25mm (1”) Titanium Dome tweeter, a 150mm (6”) FST Continuum Cone midrange driver plus two 165mm (6.5”) paper-cone bass drivers.
  • 606 S3: A standmount or bookshelf speaker featuring the all-new 25mm (1”) Titanium Dome tweeter and a 165mm (6.5”) Continuum Cone mid/bass driver.
  • 607 S3: A compact standmount or bookshelf speaker featuring the all-new 25mm (1”) Titanium Dome tweeter and a 130mm (5”) Continuum Cone mid/bass driver.
  • HTM6 S3: A dedicated, high-performance centre-channel speaker featuring the all-new 25mm (1”) Titanium Dome tweeter plus dual 130mm (5”) Continuum Cone mid/bass drivers.

This new series employs a common, all-new, Titanium Dome tweeter; a two part design using a 25-micron, thin, rigid, main dome that is braced by a 30-micron titanium ring housed in an elongated tube and capped by an open grille, the latter borrowed from the 800 Series Signature.

Mid-range/bass is handled by the all new 600 Series S3’s Continuum cone FST driver, which are said to feature; “more powerful, lower distortion 700 Series S3 motor assemblies”.  While low-end bass is handled in the 603 by two paper cone drivers.

Other improvements to the Series 3 include; an updated crossover that uses “upgraded bypass capacitors from the 700 Series S3” , the addition of a trim ring that allows the HF unit to sit closer to the main drive units, a 700 series specification bass reflex port, stiffer internal bracing and new rear speaker terminals that support bi-amping. With all models being avilable in a black, white or oak finish.

For those looking to standmount the 606 or 607 models the new FS-500 S3 stands now feature metal threaded inserts for a more secure fixing and comes in either a black or silver finish.
