Clearaudio, a high-end German analogue audio company, has just announced the Compass, its new entry-level turntable. For Clearaudio this new entry-level model is quite a revelation as it comes in at a price point considerably lower than any of its other audiophile offerings, including its current, The Concept, turntable. The Compass comes ready to play, combining the newly developed Clearaudio T1 tonearm and N1 cartridge with the Clearaudio Compass Turntable. It will be available in both silver and black finishes.

The Compass features a resonance-optimized chassis made from medium-density wood fiber with a steel bottom plate adds weight and stability helping to minimize unwanted noise and vibrations. The chassis supports the main platter that is made from a 0.787-inch (20mm) slab of acrylic, mounted over a CNC-machined aluminum sub-platter and supported by a polished steel spindle running in a sintered bronze bushing with a Teflon thrust pad.

A decoupled 12V DC motor, damped for resonance control, drives the Clearaudio Compass sub-platter using a flat belt system. The electronic speed control is switchable between; 33⅓ and 45 rpm speeds (+/- 0.05%).

The design comes complete with arm and cartridge, featuring the new T1 tonearm with fixed headshell, a compact version of Clearaudio’s established Satisfy arm. It is constructed from aluminum with a stainless steel counterweight, provides anti-skating adjustment and supports a cartridge balance range from 2.5g to 17.0g. It includes Clearaudio Direct Wire PLUS internal wiring, terminated with RCA connectors.

The new N1 moving-magnet (MM) cartridge features an aluminum body, elliptical stylus, and aluminum cantilever. It provides a 3.3mV output and a frequency response from 20Hz to 20KHz.
This compact turntable package measures (HxWxD) 4.72×17.13×13.39 inch (120x435x340mm) including dustcover and weighs in at approximately 18lbs (8Kg). It also comes with an external power supply that is compatible with international voltages and frequencies.
