Yamaha has announced the WXA-70A Compact Streaming Amplifier and WXC-70A Compact Streaming Pre-Amplifier. These two new compact components combine network streaming, digital connectivity and amplification features. Both support Yamaha’s MusicCast multi-room platform and use the ESS 32bit high performance 2 channel SABRE ES9039Q2M DAC at their cores. The major difference being that the WXA variant includes a Class D power amplifier that provides 55wpc into 8 ohms. Their design features aluminium enclosures, reinforced chassis construction, damping materials and heat-management measures and both are available in either a black or silver finish. Pricing for the WXA is £1,199 / £1,300 while the WXC comes in at £859 / $1,000.

Yamaha WXA-70A
The Yamaha WXA-70A combines network streaming with ICE power 125ASX2 Class D amplification. Yamaha rates its output of the 100/230 volt model at 55W per channel into 8 Ohms and 105W per channel into 4 Ohms, 2ch Driven 20-20KHz 0.06%THD. It also includes HDMI eARC for TV audio, Dialogue Level function designed to make speech easier to hear, inputs for analog and digital sources and one sub out.

Yamaha WXC-70A
The WXC-70A is a streaming pre-amplifier only and is intended for adding network audio to an existing HiFi system. It provides both analogue and digital outputs, together with player and pre-amplifier modes and sub out. It too includes HDMI eARC and the Dialogue Level function.

Yamaha WXA-70A and Yamaha WXC-70A
Both models’ support the same network streaming and file formats. These include; AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz Connect and Roon Ready with support for MP3, WMA, MPEG-4 AAC, WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSD file formats. MusicCast allows compatible Yamaha devices to be controlled and linked for multi-room playback via the MusicCast app.
Common to both designs is Yamaha’s DAC on Pure Ground (D.O.P.G) circuit configuration, with the digital and analogue sections separated as part of the internal layout. They also incorporate Asynchronous Sample Rate Converter (ASRC) technology, which rebuilds incoming timing before the signal reaches the DAC using the units’ internal clock. Yamaha’s Parametric room Acoustic Optimizer (YPAO) is also included. Using the supplied microphone, the YPAO system measures the listening environment and adjusts playback to account for factors including room shape, absorption and speaker placement.

Control is available using the supplied remote control, front panel controls and OLED display and it maybe integrated into a custom installation using; Control4, web-based setup, a dedicated IR input and the 12V trigger connections. Wi-Fi and Bluetooth can also be disabled individually during installation.

Yamaha WXA-70A and Yamaha WXC-70A Rear Panels
Common rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x stereo RCA line level, 1 x optical, 1 x HDMI eARC inputs. Outputs include 1 x RCA subwoofer and 1 x USB Type A. Control is available using the Network RJ45, 1 x 3.5mm trigger out and the 1 x 3.5mm IR in. There is also a single 3.5mm connection for the YPAO microphone. Additional connections for the WXA include one pair of speaker binding posts, while the WXC has 1 x optical and 1 x coaxial digital output plus 1 x pair RCA line-level outputs.
