Technics SL-1500CS Turntable – Quick Look

Technics has added yet another turntable to their well established SL line, the SL-1500CS, an evolution of the SL-1500C, achieving improved rotational accuracy through advanced digital control with ΔΣ-Drive. This direct-drive technology uses a coreless direct drive motor and together with its Delta-Sigma drive upgrade to its direct-drive system is said to significantly minimize motor vibration. The model includes a high-sensitivity tonearm equipped with an Ortofon 2M Red phono MM cartridge. Automatic arm lift at the end of the record and a built in moving-magnet (MM) phono preamp are also provided. This latest model comes in a metallic grey finish for both the plinth and matching platter ring and includes a dust cover.
This more basic and lighter-weight model uses the Delta-Sigma technology to control vibration and help improve playback quality. According to Technics, this CS model retains most of the other mechanical design elements found in the SL-1500C predecessor, including the same aluminum chassis integrated with “a special material consisting of ABS mixed with glass fibre” that results in a two-layer construction and a 2Kg damped aluminum die cast platter. Further vibration isolation is achieved from surfaces with its included spring and rubber isolation feet that are said to resist mechanical feedback and block external vibrations.
The combination of the Delta-Sigma drive technologies and iron-coreless motor stators minimizes cogging, while its digital motor control is microcontroller-based, providing for a more precise speed detection and control when compared to traditional analog methods. By “optimizing the motor driver sine wave signal,” vibration has be minimized with a reported improvement in rotational accuracy, clarity and stability. Electronic speed selection includes; 33-1/3, 45 and 78 rpm.
The SL-1500-CS comes with an adjustable S-shaped, static-balanced, gimbal tonearm design with a lightweight aluminum tube. Its detachable universal headshell includes a factory aligned Ortofon 2M Red MM phono cartridge.
A built-in and switchable moving magnet (MM) phono cartridge RIAA pre-amplifier is provided with dedicated ± power supplies and separate grounding to reduce interference.
Its RCA outputs support both line input devices and your own phono pre-amplifier of choice.
