Technics has announced that this April it will release a limited-edition direct-drive turntable to celebrate the 50th anniversary of its legendary SL-1200 series. The original SL-1200 rapidly became an audiophile favorite and was adopted by the DJ fraternity shortly after its initial release in 1972, blurring the lines between hi-fi and club.

This updated model is based on the 2019 SL-1200MK7 record player and features a golden anodized tonearm and an engraved serial number on the front RHS of its top panel. Only 12,000 turntables will be released worldwide, each one comes with a gold colored Technics logo, a 50th-anniversary sticker and is available in seven colors; black, red, blue, white, green, yellow and beige.

This updated design includes a high rigidity cabinet and damping insulator to minimize vibrations together with a starting torque/brake speed adjustment function, pitch control, reverse play, and a stylus illuminator with a high-brightness, long-life LED.
