Technics has announced the end of the production of the existing and iconic SL-1200/1210G turntable models by the end of this year due to the discontinuation of some externally sourced components. However, they will be commemorating the models with the release of the SL-1200/1210G Master Editions (GME).
The new Master Edition represents the final evolution of the series, integrating their ΔΣ-Drive (Delta Sigma Drive) motor control system and a low-noise switching power supply to achieve its highest performance. It will feature gold accents and be available in limited quantities of 1210 in Black and 1200 in Silver.
As the final limited edition model, it will arrive with the following gold-coloured refinements:
- Tonearm with gold color painting
- Head shell with gold color printing of the Technics logo
- Top panel with gold-colored engraved Technics logo
- Logo badge “Master Edition” with serial number
- Dust cover logo sheet with gold color printing Technics logo
- Strobe off control

Motor & Delta Sigma Processor
The ΔΣ-Drive motor control technology delivers a perfect drive sine wave signal to the iron-coreless direct drive motor using a PWM signal generation with ΔΣ (Delta Sigma) modulation, expanding the PWM carrier frequency from around 2 kHz to over 20 kHz and reducing audible noise and further suppressing micro-vibrations. The iron-coreless double-rotor/single stator engine design eliminates unwanted “cogging” and delivers high drive torque for superior rotational power. This new motor design has been reworked using a reinforced stator board with non-magnetic screws to reduce minute vibrations and smooth out the sensitive tracking process.
Pitch control is achieved using a Hall effect sensor hybrid encoder that constantly monitors and corrects rotational speed. This technology compensates for external influences, like warped vinyl and varying stylus drag effects.

The SL-1200GME comes with an S-shaped magnesium tonearm with high-precision bearings all mounted on the 4-layered plinth that is a composite of an aluminium diecast, BMC (Bulk Moulding Compound), a 10mm hairline-brushed aluminum top plate and a heavy-weight rubber coating on the bottom chassis. All resulting in most vibrations being totally suppressed.

The 3-layered heavily damped platter is formed from an aluminum die-cast with vibration suppressing heavyweight rubber on the bottom surface and a 2mm thick brass top plate for additional vibration reduction, for a total weight of 7.9lbs, including its solid rubber matt. Each platter is balanced individually ensuring a perfectly even and steady rotation.

Supporting the entire turntable assembly are four adjustable insulator feet that use a newly developed zinc insulator using αGEL gelatinous material with excellent shock absorption, providing high vibration damping and minimizing feedback.

Power supply and speed control electronics
Finally, there is a new multi-stage silent power supply, a combination of a low-noise, high-speed switched mode power supply working at over 100kHz, and a noise canceling circuit. This circuit cancels remaining noise by injecting the reversed-phase current of the actual noise. This technique creates a very low noise floor, enabling excellent signal-to-noise ratio, improving the overall turntable performance.
