Technics Announces SC-CX700 Streaming Speakers

Technics have just announced its first ever pair of active streaming speakers, the SC-CX700, stand-mount or bookshelf pair. They support Bluetooth, Google Cast, Apple AirPlay 2 and Spotify Connect with Tidal, Amazon Music and Deezer controlled by the supporting Audio Centre app. Supported CODECS include; WAV, FLAC, AIFF, ALAC, AAC, MP3 and DSD. Bit rate support extends to 384 kHz/16, 24, 32bit, depending upon CODEC, plus DSD 11.2MHz. They are available in three microfiber wrapped suede finishes: Charcoal Black, Silky Grey and Terracotta Brown.

This new design uses two 2-way bass reflex cabinets with forward firing ports. Each contain amplifiers, processing and a new 6″ coaxial woofer with built-in 0.75″ tweeter. They are assigned primary and secondary with the primary containing all I/O connectivity and top panel controls. Connectivity between them is either wireless or hardwired.

Each speaker is fully active and is driven by its own JENO-Engine amplifier with the newly designed Phase Precision Driver 4 bass units powered by 60 watts and the coaxial tweeters by 40 watts.

Technics state that the bass driver’s Model-Based Diaphragm Control (MBDC) “allows unparalleled motion control of the driver for ultimate sonic purity – even at very high sound pressure levels” and that; “The newly developed coaxial unit features a lightweight ring tweeter that allows the sound to rise and converge quickly, enabling faithful sound reproduction”. 

The SC-CX700’s cabinet uses front firing “Smooth Flow” bass reflex slot ports and is internally divided into two sections; the rear section houses the JENO-Engine amplifiers that powers the two speaker drivers in the front section. The design comes with SpaceTune that allows customization of the speakers performance based upon placement and preference. It also gives access to the automatic EQ adjustment feature using the speakers built-in microphone, or for more precise measurement and correction by using the Technics Audio Center app (iOS devices only).

Besides the Technics Audio Center app, speaker control is also available locally using the top panel buttons on the primary speaker or the included remote control.

Rear panel signal connectivity on the primary speaker includes; stereo phono RCA with RIAA EQ for the vinyl lover, 3.5mm stereo line-level analog in, USB-C, HDMI ARC for TVs, RJ45 Ethernet, digital optical in, subwoofer output and the P/S Link RJ45 to connect to the secondary speaker. Wireless pairing is also available but reduces the performance to PCM 96kHz / 24bit as opposed to  PCM 192kHz / 24bit for a wired connection.
