Rotel Amora 5 Loudspeaker – First Look

Rotel is probably better known for its amplifiers, CD players and other source components. The Amora 5, a new two-way bass-reflex standmount loudspeaker, marks their return to passive speaker design. This new model is available in a Matte Black and Matte White finish and includes a removable, magnetically attached grille with acoustically transparent fabric.

The cabinet is made from MDF and measures 350 x 190 x 300mm (HxWxD), and includes a rear-firing reflex port tuned to extend bass performance down to a quoted 48Hz. The tweeter sits in an aluminium surround ring, backed by a shaped ABS faceplate designed to reduce diffraction, while the mid/bass driver uses a rigid aluminium frame to help maintain alignment and reduce unwanted mechanical vibration. A dual pair of gold-plated speaker terminals supporting either single or bi-wire connection.

The Amora 5 is designed to compliment Rotels existing electronics line while still slotting into other hi-fi systems. The Amora 5 combines two bespoke drive units, a precision-tuned crossover and a rigid MDF cabinet in a compact bookshelf package.

The design uses a 25mm silk-dome tweeter and a 165mm woven-fibre composite mid/bass driver, crossing over at 2.5KHz, has a quoted frequency response of 48Hz to 28KHz and a sensitivity of 87dB (2.83V/1m).
