PS Audio has just released its Mount Massive firmware upgrade for its PerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2. The new v3.1.0 operating system is said to enable the DirectStream DAC MK2 to deliver dramatically improved sound quality, with greater resolution, lower noise, and other sonic refinements.
The DirectStream DAC MK2’s uses their exclusive Digital Lens, which reconstructs the incoming digital data into a new and jitter-free signal. This technology has been updated with a new buffer, audible noise has been lowered by 10 dB, and ultrasonic noise is reduced by 30 dB. Such an upgrade is possible as unlike most DAC’s that use off-the-shelf conventional DAC chips, the PerfectWave DirectStream DAC MK2 is fully programmable by means of its twin Field-Programmable Gate Array (FPGA) core processing engines.
Paul McGowan, PS Audio CEO noted that; “This is the single biggest upgrade I have ever heard in the 50 years that I have done this. It’s huge… It’s really, really big”.
Improvements At A Glance:
The Mount Massive beta release update includes:
- Lowered ultrasonic noise by 30dB
- Moved what ultrasonic noise remains out from 30kHz to beyond 100kHz
- Lowered audible noise by 10dB
- Added a new Digital Lens FPGA buffer
- Improved sound quality dramatically
