Luxman has released two new flagship components; the D-100 SACD/CD player and the L-100 Integrated amplifier. Both are part of Luxman’s 100 Centennial Series.

Weighing it at 56lbs (25.4Kg), the L-100 Class-A amplifier follows the Luxman tradition with twin illuminated VU meters, brushed aluminium fascia, and sculpted chassis proportions that are immediately recognisable, continuing to support a contemporary rather than retro styling. Control is available using the six front panel rotary controls and four buttons or the supplied RA-17A IR remote.

Rated at a modest 20 watts per channel into 8 ohms (40 watts into 4 ohms), Luxman looks to have prioritised Class A performance over power. The output stage employs a triple-parallel Darlington push-pull configuration, supported by an over specified power supply built around a custom designed EI-core transformer and eight 10,000μF filter capacitors filter capacitors.

Internal circuitry uses version 1.1 of the Luxman Integrated Feedback Engine System (LIFES), an evolution of the companies Only Distortion Negative Feedback (ODNF) architecture. By using multiple field-effect transistors in parallel at the input of its error-detection circuit, Luxman claims lower distortion and improved linearity. While volume is controlled by the latest-generation Luxman Electronically Controlled Ultimate Attenuator (LECUA), providing 88 discrete steps.

Rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x MM/MC stereo phono, 4 x RCA stereo line input, 2 x XLR stereo line inputs and 1 x stereo RCA pre out and main in. Dual stereo binding posts support bi-wiring, while control is available using the 3.5mm 12VDC trigger I/O and 3.5mm control I/O. Both balanced and single-ended headphone outputs are available on the front panel.

D-100 Centennial

The D-100 Centennial CD player replaces the fluorescent panel, used on earlier models, with a zoomable, large monochrome, high resolution OLED display. The chassis continues to use cast-iron isolation feet to aid mechanical stability, while control is available using the front panel transport and function buttons and supplied RD-21 IR remote.

At the core of this new design is Luxman’s proprietary LxDTM-i disc transport that is fully integrated into the main chassis and reinforced with thick aluminium side frames, a steel top plate, and an aluminium base for improved rigidity and vibration control.

Digital conversion is handled by ROHM’s flagship BD34302EKV 32 bit/1,536 KHz DACs, deployed in a dual-mono configuration. Two newly developed clock circuits are employed, combining ultra-low phase-noise oscillator ICs and large crystal oscillators. This design reduces noise around the oscillation frequency, achieving very high precision and low jitter. For the USB input, asynchronous communication is managed by a dedicated DSP, while for S/PDIF input, LUXMAN’s integrated Digital Audio Interface Receiver (DAIR) system provides high-accuracy clock control.

Providing ample stable and noise free power is essential for this level of performance. To this end Luxman incorporates a highly stable power supply design, combining a CI-core power transformer, independent left/right rectification circuits, regulators and a bank of 40,000μF high-capacity filter capacitors. This ensures pure, powerful, and stable power delivery. In addition, numerous sound-quality-first specifications are adopted, including peel-coated circuit boards free from resistive influence and OFC internal wiring.

The D-100 supports high-resolution PCM up to 768 KHz/32-bit and DSD up to 22.5 MHz (DSD512) via USB, together with both SACD and CD playback.  As with the L-100, the analogue output stage also uses the latest LIFES 1.1 circuit, configured fully balanced and feeding both RCA and XLR outputs.
