JBL Completes Summit Series With Everest And K2 Speakers

JBL has announced two new flagship loudspeakers; the Summit Everest and Summit K2. They complete the Summit Series that also includes; the Summit Makalu, Summit Pumori and Summit Ama. Both loudspeakers are available in high-gloss black with platinum accents or Macassar Ebony veneer with gold detailing.

Summit Everest
Weighing in at 523lbs (237.2Kg), this 3.5 way floorstanding Everest is the largest in the range with dimensions of: 56.8″ x 39.1″ x 27.3″. Its high-frequency system combines three D2820 2″ dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression drivers with a 3-into-1 expansion manifold, feeding a large-format Sonoglass HDI horn.

3 in 1 HF Expansion Manifold
Mid-bass is handled by a pair of 10″ cast-frame Differential Drive drivers with LF reproduction handled by dual 15″ cast-frame Differential Drive drivers that use JBL’s triple-layer Hybrid Carbon Cellulose Composite Cone (HC4).
Bandwidth is specified at 20 Hz to beyond 23 kHz. Sensitivity is rated at 96dB (2.83V/1m). Recommended amplifier power is 25 – 1200W into a nominal 4-ohm load; minimum impedance drops to 2.7 ohms at 86.8Hz, which will have implications for amplifier choices. This is not a small loudspeaker – dimensions (H x W x D) are 56.8″ x 39.1″ x 27.3″, nor is it a light one – weighing in at a whopping 523 lbs (237.2kg) per speaker.

Summit K2
The K2 is a 3-way floorstanding loudspeaker that uses a single 15″ cast-frame Differential Drive woofer and a 10″ cast-frame Differential Drive mid-bass driver, again both using HC4 cones. The high-frequency system uses three D2815 1.5″ dual-diaphragm, dual-motor compression drivers with a 3-into-1 expansion manifold and the same large-format Sonoglass HDI horn format as the Everest.
This slightly smaller cabinet has dimensions (H x W x D) of 50.4″ x 25.0″ x 18.1″, and weighs in at 239 lbs (108.4Kg) per speaker. Bandwidth is quoted to be 25 Hz to 23.5 kHz, sensitivity is rated at 92dB (2.83V/1m) with a nominal 4-ohm load that drops to 3.27 ohms at 86.8Hz.
Both designs use cabinets that are said to be internally offset, multi-braced and damped, with pressed curved walls intended to suppress internal standing waves. IsoAcoustic isolation feet are fitted as standard.
Completing the design of each model their crossovers use an advanced MultiCap network that replaces conventional large capacitors with multiple smaller ones, JBL says that this approach reduces electrostatic resistance and energy loss. Internal wiring is Ohno-Continuous-Cast long-crystal oxygen-free silver-plated copper.

Their rear panels supporting single-wire, bi-amp/bi-wire and tri-amp/tri-wire configurations with binding posts made from a rhodium and silver coated, oxygen-free pure copper core.
