British Hi-Fi brand Cyrus, have announced a new 40 Series that is currently comprised of four models, the; 40 AMP integrated amplifier, 40 CD CD player, 40 ST network streamer, and 40 PSU external power supply. It is also rumored that a phono preamplifier is coming in 2025. These small sleek designs feature a brushed black aluminum case, a full-color TFT display, aluminum volume control and includes a new remote control in the same brushed finish.

The design is said to include custom-designed components and all three models use the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M 32bit 2 channel DAC, which employs HyperStream IV Dual DAC technology.

The 40 AMP integrated amplifier provides up to 100 watts per channel into 6 ohms and boasts an extensive range of digital and analogue connections, including a low-noise moving magnet (MM) phono stage. There’s even an HDMI eARC port provided that simplifies your TV and soundbar connectivity. The 40 AMP is also compatible with the 40 PSU allowing for improved performance by the pre-amp section and a small increase in output power.

The 40 CD uses the same DAC as both the 40 AMP and 40 ST stablemates and uses a power supply that is said to minimize interaction between the various signals that include; digital audio, analogue audio, high current servo and system controls.  The digital control circuits run from a dedicated high-efficiency supply, while another powers all other circuits are powered from nine individual stage regulators that smooth and regulate power within the player. The DAC also supports selection of one of eight filter types to suit your ears and music tastes. Connectivity includes; RCA analog stereo output x 2, 1 x optical and 1 x coaxial digital outputs and an RJ45 for control. The 40 CD performance may also be enhanced by the addition of the 40 PSU.

The 40 ST streamer again uses the ESS Sabre ES9039Q2M chipset and HyperStream IV Dual DAC technology, supporting up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM & DSD1024 audio files. Up to eight filter characteristics may again be selected. The 40 ST is powered by the BluOS hi-res streaming platform giving access to many natively integrated streaming services, thousands of internet radio stations, and your networked music library. It is Roon Ready and includes both Airplay 2 and MQA decoding. Connectivity includes; 2 x RCA analog stereo output, 2 x optical and 2 x SPDIF coaxial digital inputs and outputs, plus a USB-A for HDD or memory stick playback and an RJ45 network connection. As with the other two models, the 40 ST performance may also be enhanced by the addition of the 40 PSU.

Finally, the 40 PSU external power supply features an onboard microprocessor that communicates directly with the host product to consistently provide the best configuration of virtually noise-free power from a full range of digitally controlled voltage output levels. Enhancements to the host models include;

  • 40 AMP – supporting the main power stages supply lines for more power, the pre-amp stage is powered exclusively by the 40 PSU, leaving the 40 AMP power supply to power the DAC stage.
  • 40 CD – powering the master clock, to improve jitter, powering the “noisy” CD motors, and moving the supply outside the box lowers the overall noise within the box. The 40 PSU also takes over powering the analogue side of the DAC, with the internal supply powering the digital side of the DAC.
  • 40 ST – provides a cleaner more stable supply of power to the analogue side of the DAC and the BluOS network module.
