Cambridge Audio have just announced the Evo One, a versatile tabletop speaker system that builds on the hi-res streaming capabilities of the Evo 75 and Evo 150 streaming amplifiers. This premium all-in-one music system provides listeners hi-fi sound, without the need for multiple separates and components. It features wireless connectivity that supports onboard streaming from many key music services and a total of 700Watts of amplification.
The Evo One is designed to deliver omnidirectional sound through 14 strategically placed tuned drivers, comprising; four 1-inch silk dome tweeters, four 2.25-inch aluminum cone midrange drivers, and six 2.75-inch woofers.
Each driver has a dedicated 50-watt Class D amp channel for a total of 700 watts (at 4 ohms) that uses an advanced Digital Signal Processor (DSP), that according to Cambridge Audio helps to produce clear, deep and controlled bass, providing a claimed frequency response of 38Hz to 20kHz +/-3dB. The amp also includes a 32-bit/96-kHz digital-to-analog converter (DAC), all being housed in a stylish 27″ long soundbar styled cabinet.
This latest design is built around the fourth generation of Cambridge Audio’s app-based StreamMagic platform. It is Roon Ready and supports Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) connectivity, high-resolution multiroom streaming over Wi-Fi via AirPlay 2 and Google Cast with direct connection to Spotify Connect, Tidal Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, and internet radio. Bluetooth 5.1 provides standard resolution streaming while support for hi-res audio files up to 32-bit/192kHz over wi-fi or an ethernet connection is available. Audio file format support is extensive and includes; WAV, FLAC, ALAC, AIFF, DSD (DSF and DFF), WMA, MP3 (CBR and VBR), AAC, HE AAC and AAC+ (CBR and VBR), OGG Vorbis.
For those wishing to hardwire the unit, the rear of the Evo One contains; 1 x HDMI eARC for TV use, 1 x optical digital input, 1 x Ethernet & 1 x USB-A port, 1 x analog stereo RCA line-level input, and a moving-magnet (MM) phono input.
Control is available through the front panel buttons, the supplied IR remote and the StreamMaic app with a 6.8-inch (17cm) color screen offering; a clock display, album artwork and track information, or virtual VU meters. The Evo One even supports a seven-band equalizer, bass and treble controls and many pre-sets.
Finally, the Evo One comes in a minimalist retro-modern design, that uses real walnut veneer and is wrapped in a honeycomb style grille that is covered with acoustically transparent fabric.
