Cambridge Audio has just launched two affordable hi-res music streamers with major streaming features both of which offer good value and sleek form-factors.

The AXN10 and MXN10 network audio players sit below their award-winning CXN V2 music streamer taking their direction from it and providing everything music lovers need, while offering lower prices with slim, elegant minimalist designs and in the case of the MXN10, a half width form factor for a more flexible and easier placement.

The streamers both feature exactly the same streaming features, file compatibility, connectivity and functionality, only differing in physical size. Neither sports a front panel screen, however, both can be controlled using the dedicated, and simple to use, StreamMagic app available for iOS and Android.

Both designs have their in-house StreamMagic module at its centre, which powers the premium CXN V2, Evo all-in-one systems and high-end Edge NQ streaming preamp. As such they both have a wide range of streaming options to include; AirPlay 2, Google Chromecast and Bluetooth 5.0. They have wi-fi and wired ethernet and can play locally stored files either via UPnP or the USB Type A input. Various music streaming services are supported to include; Spotify Connect, Tidal and Qobuz as well as internet radio. The players are Roon Ready but have no native MQA support for Tidal Master streams (see comment below).

The internal ESS Sabre ES9033Q DAC handles hi-res audio files up to 32-bit/768kHz PCM and DSD512 with a claimed 20Hz–70KHz +0/-1dB frequency response. While neither can process MQA, it is possible to bypass the internal DAC and have the MQA file processed by an external DAC that supports MQA. This will allow the full unfold of the MQA file to take place externally, still allowing you to control and queue your MQA files via the AXN/MXN and StreamMagic app.

Volume level is fixed and output connectivity includes; line level analog unbalanced stereo RCA and digital coaxial and optical (TOSLINK).

Finally, control is avilable through both the front panel buttons that give direct access to your favourite playlists or internet radio stations and by using their latest StreamMagic Gen 4 module and software that powers both players. The system was developed in London by Cambridge Audio for a no-compromise hi-fi sound and rock-solid streaming performance. It’s intuitive to use and can playback music at 768KHz 32bit PCM or DSD512 resolution.
