Yamaha has just released a firmware update for its Aventage RX-A4A, RX-A6A, RX-A8A – Firmware Update Ver.1.65 that includes several long awaited HDMI 2.1 gaming and display features plus a few bug fixes. When Yamaha originally released these receivers, several of the HDMI 2.1 features were asterisked as future upgrades that would be released after their launch, well here are some of them.
This firmware update, Version 1.65, creates the ability for these receivers to; passthrough both 4K@120Hz and 8K@60Hz video signals from compatible devices such as PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X consoles and support the HDR10+ video format. Notably no Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) support yet.
Both the 4K and 8K video signals may be either compressed or uncompressed using Yamaha’s display screen compression (DSC) depending upon their format:
Compressed:
- 8K@60Hz (12 bit 4:4:4)
- 4K@120Hz (12 bit 4:4:4)
Uncompressed:
- 8K@30Hz (10 bit 4:4:4)
- 4K@120Hz (10 bit 4:4:4)
Below is the official Yamaha USA announcement that comes with firmware download and installation instructions:
