Wharfedale, one of Britain’s most well-known loudspeaker manufacturers with a legacy dating back to 1932, has just unveiled its latest addition to the Heritage Series. The new three-way SUPER DENTON continues to expand Wharfedale’s Heritage series being based on the classic designs from Wharfedale’s past, but now brought up to date with modern drive units, cabinetry and crossover technology. The SUPER DENTON Anniversary speakers are available in three finishes; Walnut, Mahogany, and Black oak. Joining the Denton 80, Denton 85, Linton, and Dovedale, the re-engineered Super Denton blends vintage aesthetics and modern day technical performance and technologies.

This ported compact sized three-way speaker features a 6.5″ woven Kevlar bass driver supporting a bass extension down to 40Hz, a 2″ soft dome midrange and 1″ soft dome HF unit.

The passive crossovers between the drivers of 940Hz & 4.6kHz are designed with air-core inductor coils and high-specification polypropylene capacitors to ensure a smooth blending of driver outputs. According to Wharfdale “the midrange and treble units are offset from the center, which helps maintain the speaker’s compact stature and scatter reflections from the cabinet edges.”

The upgraded cabinetry is constructed from a combination of woods to scatter panel resonances using an inner layer of high-density particle board that is bonded to an outer layer of MDF using an inter-layer of special glue with resonance-damping properties. The cabinets use critically placed bracing and long-hair fiber to aid with internal damping, with the midrange and treble units housed inside their own sealed enclosures.

The Super Denton comes in mirror-imaged matched pairs with each speaker being optimized for the left and right channels, ensuring accurate stereo imaging with a deep soundstage when correctly positioned.

Finally, according to Wharfedale, even the magnetic grille has been optimized in order to maximize the power performance of the drive units and avoid interference from reflections from the edges of the cabinet.
