Triangle Capella Streaming Speakers – Quick Look
All Image Credit: Triangle
Triangle have recently announced a new bookshelf sized active streaming loudspeaker, the Capella. It is a 2-way design that uses a 6.5″ (16.5cm) cellulose pulp membrane driver that handles the bass/midrange and a 1″ (2.5cm) horn-loaded magnesium alloy dome tweeter. Each driver is fed by its own 50 watt Class D amplifier with the active crossover implemented in a DSP. Direct speaker connectivity is available via; Bluetooth 4.2 and WiSA dual-band Wi-Fi via its separate hub or a single RCA connector. Hub input signal connectivity is available over a wide choice of analog and digital connections. They even feature automatic calibration via the optional Zen wireless microphone and/or iPhone app. Finishes include; Astral Blue, Brown Nebula, Black Star and Space White.
Each speaker sits on top of a metal frame with its bass port firing downwards creating a quoted bass extension to 42Hz (-3dB). The cabinet is stiffened by proprietary ‘DVAS’ technology which consists of optimized perforated reinforcements that are pushed against the driver using damping materials and providing proper airflow. However, this does mean that the bottom framed support must be placed on a flat surface, like the stands, shelf or table top, to ensure correct bass loading.
Wireless connectivity to each speaker is via the supplied Stereo Hub that uses WiSA protocol that connects to each speakers WiSA receivers using a data rate of 24bit/96kHz (and 2.6ms latent). On the hubs rear we find; HDMI ARC, 3 x TOSLINK, coaxial, USB-B, and digitized analogue RCA and 3.5mm connections. The hub supports various streaming services to include; Bluetooth, Google Chromecast, Airplay, Spotify Connect and Roon Ready with Triangle’s accompanying app integrating Qobuz, Tidal and Deezer. With digital format support to include;
For those wanting to further improve their listening environment the Capella supports room equalization using either the optional wireless Zen microphone and Android phone/tablet or just the iPhone app and its internal microphone.
Finally, a wireless connected aluminum remote is included for easy input selection and feature control.
