SVS has announced the 5000 R|Evolution Series subwoofers. The two new models extend the subwoofer technology platform previously developed for the brand’s flagship 17-Ultra R|Evolution subwoofers, bringing reference performance to lower prices and smaller enclosures. SVS claims that this new series of subwoofers bring “reference low-frequency performance” to more home cinema and music fans. Both new models feature several advancements, including a first-ever 15-inch driver, a dual monoblock amplifier, and a 295MHz Analog Devices DSP, the most powerful processing engine ever used in a subwoofer. Both models are available in a piano gloss black and black ash finish.

The main differences between the two designs is that the SB is a sealed cabinet subwoofer with a claimed frequency response of 17Hz—280Hz (+/-3dB), whereas the larger PB offers a (3) ported cabinet and a claimed frequency response of 13Hz to 180Hz (+/-3dB) in extended mode with two ports open. Both versions use the new SVS 15-inch driver that sports a dual, flat, edge-wound three-inch voice coil to improve current handling. The drivers cone is composed of a lightweight and rigid laminated glass-fiber, being terminated by a long-throw parabolic Nitrile Butadiene Rubber (NBR) surround that supports extreme excursion. While a copper-clad aluminum voice coil combines the best properties of both elements, which SVS states yield an “ideal thermal capacity and magnetic field strength” within the 38.4lb (21Kg) toroidal ferrite magnet motor.

Powering these new drivers is a 2,000-watt RMS, 5,000+-watt peak dual STA-2000D Class-D amplifier, each one driving one of the dual voice coils to increase the current into the motor while creating pinpoint control. Eight 60-amp 200-volt MOSFETs deliver all this power using a high-efficiency Class D configuration. These power amplifiers are fed and controlled by a 295MHz Analog Devices DSP that controls every amplifier function, shaping  in-room response, stabilizing AC voltage delivery and managing a multi-point thermal and current monitoring system for optimal performance and efficiency. Advanced digital audio processing and DACs (Digital-to-Analog Converters) with 120 dB Signal-to-Noise Ratio provide high headroom, low noise, and acoustic linearity.

Both designs use a highly reinforced internal design and acoustic insulation that “eliminates all coloration or resonance from the cabinet”. They both use a double-thick 2-inch MDF front baffle and rigid internal bracing to support the massive drive unit and to ensure an acoustically inert environment. The enclosure sits on custom elastomer feet helping to reduce noise artifacts within a room.

Attention has also been given to the incoming AC power requirements that uses an onboard AC line conditioner with power factor correction that stabilizes the incoming voltage, corrects waveform distortions, and eliminates electromagnetic and radio interference for the switched mode power supply. By doing so, it continuously optimizes signal quality while ensuring the subwoofers remain impervious to voltage fluctuations.

Control and calibration of the 5000 R|Evolution series is managed using a comprehensive subwoofer control smartphone app or locally using the rear panel OLED display in conjunction with the three press buttons. The SVS app provides easy adjustment of volume, fully adjustable low pass filter, phase, polarity, six parametric equalizers, room gain compensation, tuning modes (PB-5000), power management settings, and three memory presets. Coming soon to the 5000 R|Evolution subwoofers is an Auto EQ Subwoofer Room Correction application. Using the SVS app and the smart phones built-in microphone, the feature automatically applies equalization filters, room gain, and optimizes in-room frequency response at main listening position (MLP) for optimal performance. The equalization process requires just a few simple steps to help the user resolve many room acoustic issues. The application will be available via an over-the-air app and firmware update coming soon.

The rear panel contains a small OLED display and three button control interface for local adjustements plus analog audio connections that include; stereo RCA and XLR inputs and looping outputs, 3.5mm trigger and IR inputs, plus support for a local wireless adapter.

Finally, all SVS products are backed by a five-year unconditional warranty, 45-day in-home trial, free shipping, lifetime support, the SoundPoints loyalty program, and all the guarantees of the SVS Customer Bill of Rights.
