So lets see a show of hands, how many of you were devastated when Oppo pulled out of the DVD player business? That just about looks like everybody.

Well Reavon a new French brand set up as a subsidiary to Zappitti (or HD-Land) has just announced two players that maybe capable of replacing the infamous Oppo 203 and maybe the 205.

“Based in Paris, France, Zappiti is a World Class Manufacturer and leader in 4K media platforms and media center solutions. Since 2010, the company designs and builds connected 4K media players, set-top-boxes and video servers. The company headquarters are located in Paris while the development center is located in Montpellier (South of France).”

UPDATED 08/16/2021. Now available plus a UBR-X200 review.

According to the German site Takeoff Media these two new players are NOT Oppo clones. To me they look physically closer to the Panasonic UB9000, using the same connectivity, but display the Pioneer LX500/800 media information menu.

The UBR-X200 also sports the same array of rear connectors found on the Chinese GIEC BDP-G5800 4K UHD player that also uses the same Mediatek MT8581 SoC 4K processor chip as the UBR-X200 & UBR-X100. The G5800 UHD player is rumored to run on cloned Oppo software/firmware.

However, there is limited technical information so things are still a little hazy right now. Release date in Germany is currently slated to be end of March/April 2021 with the approximate MSRP being; 799 € for the X100 and 1599 € for the X200. No release dates have been announced for any other countries yet.

Both players support an excellent selection of playback standards.

There is no mention of HDR10+, DVDA, MQA, MLP lossless or SACD sample rate support. Never the less, it all looks very promising with Texas Instruments Burr-Brown Audio PCM1690 DACs, analog toroidal power supply and audiophile components. Plus it has been confirmed that the players support firmware updates.

Well the UBR-X200 might not have the 205’s ESS Technology ES9038PRO 32bit DACs but the Burr-Brown are excellent DAC’s to, and yes the 205 also had the best-in-class 140dB dynamic range supporting sample rates up to 768 KHz PCM and DSD 512. However, it’s all in the engineering and implementation and I cannot wait to read some high end reviews and see some professional measurements. Not to mention read its manual to see what additional features might be lurking in the menus.

With no analog outputs the UBR-X100 isn’t a replacement for any Oppo player and is basically just a transport.
