Pro-Ject – The Dark Side Of The Moon Turntable

Pro-Ject initially showed off the concept of the DSOTM turntable at the 2023 High End Munich show. It is now a reality and will be available in stores this month. This handmade, limited-edition, Pro-Ject The Dark Side Of The Moon turntable, complete with LED-backlit rainbow, celebrates 50 years since the release of Pink Floyd’s 1973 extraordinary eighth studio album.

The iconic light effect of the DSOTM sleeve showing a prism splitting a beam of white light split into its constituent colors can now be had by the owners of Pro-Ject’s new, limited-edition turntable, all at the flick of a switch and dimming function. Even the approaching white beam of light is depicted by the extended on/off white lever.

The three cornered 28mm MDF plinth that represents the dispersive prism supports the stainless steel axle of the heavy aluminum sub platter that sits in a bronze bushing, and is topped off with a 10mm heavy glass platter with felt mat. The plinth also supports the AC motor that provides two speeds, 33 and 45 rpm (manual belt change) and uses electronic speed control. Drive to the sub-platter is achieved using a  precision, flat silicon belt, all helping to ensure stable speeds.

Complementing these stunning visuals Pro-Ject have included a new 8.6-inch acrylic and black aluminum, low resonance tonearm, complete with spring anti-skating adjustment. It comes with a factory, pre-aligned, Pick it PRO Special Edition MM cartridge, specifically tuned to the Dark Side of the Moon Turntable.

Finally, the DSOTM turntable signal connectivity is made using a pair of unbalanced gold plated RCA connectors and the supplied semi-symmetrical phono cable.
