Origin Live Launches Strata Multi-Layer Platter Mat

UK based Origin Live have just announced the launch of their new Strata multi-layer platter mat that is pitched as a universal upgrade for all turntables.
Strata are long time proponents of multilayer platter technologies including the multi-layer platter on its range of turntables. This latest matt is their attempt to provide users with their latest multi-layer technology for anyone wishing to improve the performance of their turntable. This latest mat uses trickle-down technology from the Multi-Layer Platter that was first developed for the company’s flagship Voyager turntable and is now available across their range from the Swift upwards.
It is claimed that many of the existing platter mats tend to only absorb specific bands of frequencies, thereby “coloring” the sound by absorbing or enhancing certain frequency bands. According to Origin Live, “The only way to solve this issue is to use multiple materials arranged such that they improve all aspects of sound quality such as detail retrieval, decay, mid-band transparency, separation and deep dynamic bass.”
The Strat Mat is composed of three distinct materials joined together using a specialized flexible bonding technique. It promises to dissipate oscillations from across the vibration spectrum, with each individual material absorbing its own specific band of vibrations. The flexible bonding between the various layers providing a slight interaction which aids in the dissipation of the vibrational energy.
This latest design is a result of extensive research and development by the Origin Live engineers who tested hundreds of materials, thicknesses, profiles and combinations in comparative listening tests in order to determine the optimum combinations.
The black mat is quite thick at 4.5mm so it may also impact your vertical tracking angle (VTA). Adjusting your arm height would therefore be in order when listening for any improvements in sound quality.
