It is now official, the Oppo UDP-203 and Oppo UDP-205 4K UHD players now support HDR10+. The US public Beta firmware version UDP20X-60-0625 has just been made available on Oppo’s official web site.

Release Notes-US:

This release is for the OPPO UDP-20x 4K UHD Blu-ray Disc Player.

Comparing to the current Official release version UDP20X-60-0625, the major changes included in this version are:

  1. Added the HDR10+ support. A HDR10+ enabled TV is required to view content in HDR10+.
  2. Added the “HDMI IN BYPASS” mode for Dolby Vision passthrough via HDMI In.
  3. General fixes and disc compatibility improvements based on recent and upcoming UHD Blu-ray releases as well as user-submitted samples.

This release is still in its public Beta format so can only be loaded using a USB stick or disc. Remember that it cannot be rolled back to the previous version if there is a problem with it. As soon as Oppo is satisfied that it is stable they will qualify it and put it out as a final release allowing owners to upgrade their players using the customary web upgrade interface.

A very pleasant surprise was the inclusion of the “HDMI IN BYPASS” for external Dolby Vision sources. A nice touch showing that Oppo engineering, as promised, is still solidly behind their player customer base with functionality to support the current technological Blu-ray standards.

The only down side to this release is that it doesn’t rectify the only significant remaining issue that these players have. That is the incorrect mapping of the HDR color space to SDR. If they can achieve this fix these players will be unassailable, especially the UDP-205.

Thank you Oppo for your continued support.
