Musical Fidelity M8xTT Turntable – Quick Look

Musical Fidelities’ latest turntable, the M8xTT, started its legacy back in the early 2000’s with the introduction of the M1 turntable. This latest belt drive model features a bespoke 10 inch arm and a multi-layered plinth. The M8xTT uses modern materials and combines a dual-layered plinth made from non-resonant acrylic mounted on four damped, height-adjustable aluminum feet with magnetic support that connect the two acrylic plinths using Teflon spacers. All creating a high mass, high isolation design.
The top acrylic layer contains the main bearing spindle and tonearm mount, while the lower plinth contains just the drive motor that is also isolated from its own plinth using a “special foam”. We are told that this arrangement effectively eliminates any motor and environmental vibrations from being transferred to the upper plinth.
The 10Kg main platter is a dual layer construction that is held together using aluminum inserts. It is damped using a thermoplastic elastomer (TPE) material and is topped off with a leather slip mat. It sits on an inverted bearing that uses a ceramic ball tip and is driven by a silicon belt and motor that uses internal electronic control. Speed selection of either 33 or 45RPM and stop is accomplished using the small button on top of the motor housing and is indicated using small LED’s. Speed drift is listed as ± 0.11% (33RPM) & ± 0.10% (45RPM) with a wow & flutter of ± 0.05% (33RPM) & ± 0.04% (45RPM).
The 10-inch tonearm is a complete new ultra low resonance Musical Fidelity design using a transparent acrylic bearing ring and conical aluminum tonearm tube. The tonearm is fully VTA and azimuth adjustable and comes with two counterweights supporting cartridges from 6 to 20g. The counterweights are also TPE damped to prevent resonances.
Rear panel connectivity is supported by either balanced XLR or unbalanced RCA sockets.
Finally the M8xTT comes with a leather mat and heavyweight aluminum record puck but no cover.
