MoFi Electronics Unveils SourcePoint 8 Speakers

Following rapidly on the heals of the well received SourcePoint 10, the latest edition to this loudspeaker series, the SourcePoint 8, has just been announced at the AXPONA 2023 event in Schaumburg, IL, USA. This bookshelf speaker is again designed by Andrew Jones to offer the same acoustic DNA as the widely acclaimed SourcePoint 10. The new SourcePoint 8 packs the same sonic excellence of its larger sibling into a more compact and manageable form factor.
The SourcePoint 8 features a custom-tooled eight-inch concentric driver and 1.25 inch soft dome tweeter that both deliver exceptional performance thanks to their innovative Twin-Drive high-flux neodymium magnet system. According to MoFi Electronics; “the Twin-Drive system creates a fully symmetrical magnetic field, resulting in extremely low intermodulation distortion (IMD) and a pure, accurate sound.” The main drivers paper pulp mix cone together with its brand-new corrugated surround is optimized for resonant behavior and acts as a waveguide for the tweeter, maximizing the tweeter efficiency and matching directivities. The combination of this waveguide loading, the tweeters wide surround and large-diameter voice coil increases the tweeters low-end efficiency allowing it to work optimally down to its low 1.6kHz crossover frequency.
The new SourcePoint 8’s cabinet measures 18 x 11.4 x 13.2 inches (HWD) and is made of 3/4-inch-thick MDF panels for the sides, top, bottom, and back. The 27.9-pound speaker sports a sculpted, multi-faceted 1.5-inch thick baffle that reduces diffraction. They have a low-frequency point of 47Hz, provide an 87dB sensitivity and have a true 8.0 ohm impedance with a minimum of 6.4 ohms. The interior is strengthened using two braces, while the exterior finishes come in a selection of satin walnut or black ash real wood veneer, or a painted satin white. Matching stands are available as an option.
