According to Mobile Fidelity “the SourcePoint 10 is designed like a cost-no-object loudspeaker, a complete from the ground up approach, to deliver the highest sound quality and value.”

The SourcePoint 10 loudspeaker is designed by Andrew Jones of ELAC fame and is based upon a concentric/coaxial arrangement of a 1.25″ soft dome tweeter and a 10″ paper pulp mid/bass driver that also acts as a waveguide for the tweeter’s output. The tweeter crossover is stated to be 1.6KHz with an upper response of 30KHz. According to Jones, the use of a large bass driver reduces its excursion maintaining a consistent waveguide and helps deliver lower bass octaves down to 42Hz. With a rated sensitivity of 91dB, 8 ohms nominal impedance and 6.2 ohms minimum impedance, it presents and easily drivable load to most  power amplifiers.

The speaker design is implemented using a “twin drive” magnet system that precisely couples two high-flux neodymium magnets – one for the mid/bass driver and one for the tweeter, creating a fully symmetrical magnetic field that according to Jones “eliminates flux modulation for extremely low intermodulation distortion (IMD) and accurate reproduction”.

The internally braced 50 liter cabinet (14.5″ x 22.5″ x 16.6″) is manufactured from 1″ thick MDF panels for its top, bottom, sides and rear that also sports two bass reflex ports and connectors. The front panel is sculptured from a 2″ thick panel in order to reduce defraction effects.

According to the Mo-Fi Electronics website; “It is not enough to simply optimize the frequency response of the woofer and tweeter. It is also critically important to minimize distortion in the motor structure of the drive unit. If the motor has distortion, it will generate new frequencies outside of the original signal. We have been very deliberate with the design of the motor to reduce these distortions.
The SourcePoint 10 is quite large (14.5″ x 22.5″ x 16.6″) making it more of a stand mount rather than a shelf mount unit and comes in your choice of either Satin Walnut or Satin Black Ash real wood veneer.
