MediaTek has just announced the Pentonic 1000 system on a chip (SoC) that they claim will power a host of 2023 TV’s from brands such as; Sony, Samsung, Philips and Panasonic who are currently using MediaTek chips in their TV’s.

MediaTeks’ latest TV platform, their flagship 4K120 SoC, with its latest integrated Motion Estimation and Motion Compensation (MEMC), 8-screen Intelligent View and powerful AI processor provides all the latest features for Cloud gaming and 4K streaming. It also supports the latest Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos standards, integrated voice assistant support, plus Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) and Auto Low Latency Mode (ALLM) for gaming and Fixed Rate Link (FRL) mode at 48Gbps.

The Pentonic 1000 is designed for 4K 120Hz HDR displays and up to 4K 144Hz VRR for gaming on its four fully featured 48Gbps HDMI 2.1 ports. High performance processing includes; multicore CPU, dual-core GPU, a dedicated AI processing unit (APU) and video decoding engines. Hardware-based video decoding ensures broadcast and streaming playback is reliable and power-efficient, whether the content is encoded with popular HEVC, AV1, AVS3, or even the latest VVC (H.266).

MediaTek Intelligent View allows the screen to be divided into 8 discrete areas, each with its own video feed and dynamic picture quality adjustment supported by AI Picture Quality (AI-PQ). AI-PQ performs real-time facial and scene recognition and fine tunes features such as; color saturation, brightness, sharpness and noise reduction. Individual images may also be moved around without disruption or loss of video or audio.

The integrated motion and compensation engine (MEMC) is designed to correct for frame rates that do not match the display refresh rates by eliminating judder and provide a fluid viewing experience by inserting extra frames as required. While Dolby Vision IQ provides greater Precision Detail for improved contrast control and dark detail improvements, all automatically optimized based on ambient lighting conditions.

High speed wireless connectivity is provided with W-Fi 6 for ultra-fast internet connectivity helping support fluid streaming of 4K content and low-latency Cloud gaming, while up to four USB ports are available for peripheral upgrades.

MediaTek says expect to see this latest processor chip in new TV’s that are released in Q1 2023.
