Marantz Model 70 Amplifier And CD 70 Player Separates

Marantz has announced two new additions to its hi-fi line-up: the MODEL 70 integrated amplifier and CD 70 CD player. A pair of full-width separates designed to give its entry-level separates a modern makeover, pairing signature looks with HDMI ARC, high-res USB playback and wireless. Both come in the Marantz signature Black and Silver-Gold finishes. These new models build on the company’s earlier PM6007 amplifier and CD6007 player and have been engineered with carefully selected components, optimised internal layouts and vibration-resistant chassis structures while continuing to focus on two-channel music playback.

The MODEL 70 is built around an upgraded current-feedback Class A/B amplifier stage rated at 50 watts per channel into 8 ohms, powered by an enhanced power supply and large toroidal transformer. It also features an electronic volume control as opposed to the analogue design used on the PM6007. Digital conversion is handled by an ES Sabre DAC, and Marantz’s proprietary HDAM-SA3 circuitry is employed preserving performance. Vinyl users are catered for with the onboard moving-magnet phono stage.

The amplifier adds HDMI ARC for TV audio and Bluetooth has been expanded to include both receive and transmit functionality, with support for aptX Adaptive, aptX HD, AAC, and SBC codecs. Control is available using the front panel six rotary controls and low noise OLED didsplay, the included RC006PMCD remote or via D-Bus.

Rear panel inputs includes; 1 x MM RCA, 3 x RCA line, 1 x coaxial and 1 x optical digital plus 1 x HDMI ARC. Outputs include; 1 x RCA pre-amp, 1 x RCA sub woofer and one pair of speaker binding posts. Control is available using the D-Bus RCA I/O.

The matching CD 70 uses the same high-performance ES Sabre DAC found in the MODEL 70 alongside their proprietary HDAM-SA2 circuitry. It also features an upgraded power supply, plus a double-layered chassis and rigid isolation feet to keep outside interference to a minimum. CD format compatibility includes; CD / CD-R/RW / WMA  and  MP3.

Its front-panel USB-A input supports high-resolution audio files, including; FLAC HD, ALAC, AIFF, and DSD codecs. Headphones are catered for by a front panel 6.3mm socket driven by a fully discrete headphone amplifier with HDAM technology with adjustable gain control and automatic headphone detection. Control is available using the front panel transport buttons and vacuum fluorescent display (VFD), the included RC006PMCD remote or via D-Bus.

Rear panel connectivity includes; 1 x stereo RCA line out and  1 x optical and 1 x coaxial digital out. Control is available using the D-Bus RCA I/O.
