Lyngdorf’s new benchmark in power amplifiers, the MXA-8400, has been launched and will be available later this year. This 8-channel Class D amplifier employs Lyndorf’s PowerPerfect power supply design and uses Purifi’s Eigentakt technology to support all eight channels that driven simultaneously can each deliver 400 watts into 4 ohms. It ideally complements the company’s high-performance multichannel processors, the Lyngdorf MP-40 2.1 and MP-60 2.1, which decode up to sixteen output channels for immersive Dolby Atmos and DTS-X home cinemas, but it is just as at home being used with any other multichannel processor.
The Purifi EIGENTAKT technology addresses many of the past challenges found with the design of Class D amplifiers. It uses patented EIGENTAKT ErrorCorrection (EEC) ensuring ultra-high, full-output loop gain (>75dB) for the entire audio band. This is said to produce extremely low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) at any frequency and any power level, as well as unrivaled low Inter Modulation Distortion (IMD), resulting in; “an incredibly neutral sound performance, with negligible audible noise and no sonic fingerprint”.
With a combined output power of 3,200 watts, tremendous demands are put on the power supply. To that end Lyngdorf have deployed their highly efficient and advanced PowerPerfect power supply solution. “With its integrated Channel Balancing Technology and several protection systems, it provides the best basis for each channel, even with all channels driven. It is so power-efficient and has such a low idle power consumption that the enclosure sufficiently becomes the heatsink, with no noisy fans required. The mains power is decoupled by design, requiring no external power conditioner. It safeguards the speakers from mains-generated noise, represents a gentle load to the mains, and does not introduce noise to other equipment.”
Other amplifier features include; ultra-low-noise and precise analog input stages and a 4-layer main PCB optimized for the best signal purity and grounding.
The design is just as comfortable driving difficult 4 ohm speaker loads as it is 8 ohm speaker loads and maybe operated in either 2-channel mode (for a total of 8 channels) or bridged mode (for a total of 4 channels) that can each provide 800 watts into 4 ohm loads.
Finally, rear panel connectivity includes; 8 balanced XLR input connectors together with 8 Neutrik speakON speaker connectors. Trigger I/O control is also available allowing the MXA-4800 to be turned on/off remotely or letting it control other suitable items of hardware.
Features At A Glance:
- The MXA-8400 is the most powerful product from Lyngdorf Audio ever, delivering 8 x 400 watts of ultra-linear and stable power.
- Purifi EIGENTAKT technology is the result of extensive research in Class D amplifiers. The patented EIGENTAKT ErrorCorrection (EEC) ensures ultra-high, full-output loop gain (>75dB) in the entire audio band.
- Highly efficient PowerPerfect power supply – 8 Purifi amplifiers with a combined 3.2 kilowatts of output power and even higher peak power represent extremely high challenges for the power supply, which is often a limiting factor with common multichannel amplifiers.
- Purifi EIGENTAKT combined with PowerPerfect, provides creates a performance that the MXA-8400 is maintains across all volume levels, the entire audio frequency range and all speaker loads.
- Designed, assembled and 24hr soak tested at Lyngdorf Audio, Denmark.

I’m trying to understand the logic of an 8 channel amplifier.
2 channel = stereo
3 channel = LCR front soundstage
4 channel = 4 Atmos channels
5 channel = 5.1 surround
7 channel = 7.1 surround
9 channel = 5.1 surround + Atmos
11 channel = 7.1 + Atmos
But why would they choose 8 channel? Is there a Auro-3D config I’m not thinking of? Distributing audio to other rooms? They must have had something in mind other than the symmetry of the back panel connections offered by 8.
Hi Jerry,
The obvious use to me would be for a single passive sub with 7.1 or a single voice of god channel for 5.1.3 Auro 3D.
I run 7.4 or 7.4.2, the 2 being front height channels, but not immersive audio. Otherwise I have little idea.
