Ratings & Reviews

Please see here for my comments on reviewing movies.

My ratings are simple being marked out of a maximum of 5+. My reviews are biased towards the technical production aspects of the film with brief comments about the story line. Extras, sorry, that’s just not my ‘bag’.

Not having immersive audio yet, what did the 4K version look like? Reference quality, and the Dolby TrueHD sound track? A very solid 7.1 mix.

Technical Review – 4K Blu-ray HDR10

Justice League can definitely be considered a reference quality 4K transfer. My new JVC RS640, Da-Mat screen, and custom 1200nit HDR gamma curve, threw an image that was often stunning. This movie shines on HD Blu-ray but on 4K the image was a real treat.  It is often an outstanding visual presentation and will impress anybody that enters your home theater.

The image sharpness and clarity is virtually perfect throughout the movie. The blacks couldn’t have been any blacker providing excellent contrast ratios and depth to the image. There was some insignificant noise but no digital artifacts. Even in 4K the CGI integration was very good and only the odd scene showed a slight softening of the graphics background. The level of detail was excellent, creating real depth to surfaces, fabrics and sets. The color palette was huge with deep reds, corn field deep greens, the blues of Aquaman’s underworld kingdom, Flashes brilliant lightning to the ” fire” surrounding Steppenwolf. All with outstanding clarity and saturation.  Skin tones and textures are very realistic showing  terrific detail including pores, hairs and makeup.

The Dolby TrueHD audio mix was almost reference quality, with plenty of dynamics, powerful low frequency effects with plenty of bottom end extension, together with some well panned effects. All surrounds saw plenty of action from the ambience of the various environments, the panned swarming insect men, to the arrivals of Steppenwolf (Ciaran Hinds) via his energy vortex, and of course, Wonder Woman’s (Gal Gadot) explosive leaps. Dialog was clear and well imaged at all times together with a music soundtrack that fully supported the films action.

Story Overview

This 4K version of the movie delivers ample eye candy. It’s very entertaining, and packs in many action and comedic moments into its 120 minutes. The soundtrack really dug deep on a number of occasions adding a extra dimension to the visual feast, and ratcheting the movie experience up to the reference level that it deserves.

If you’re a fan of DC Comics then this 4K version of the movie is another must to see and own. Yet another movie destined to become a household favorite.
