Goldmund – Mimesis Reference Analog Pre-Amp – Quick Look
All Image Credit: Goldmund
After a busy release year Goldmund is rounding out 2023 with the release of its first reference pre-amplifier (no phono stage), the Mimesis, it follows in the footsteps of their other two reference components, the Reference turntable and Eidos Reference digital player for both cost and performance.
The Mimesis Reference follows rapidly on the heels of the Mimesis Signature Pre-Amplifier. This latest model features a purely analog signal chain design having Class A output stage drivers to ensure a very low Total Harmonic Distortion (THD) and Intermodulation Distortion (IMD) of 0.0002% unbalanced in/out and 0.0001% balanced in/out. With a line signal to noise ratio of >126 dB (0.01 Hz – 10 MHz). Advanced cooling techniques ensure that each Op-Amp is equipped with its own heatsink that also serves as an electrical shield. The heatsinks are CNC milled from a single piece of aluminum ensuring optimum connectivity and heat dissipation between the Op-Amp and heat sink.
Ensuring excellent noise rejection the Mimesis uses a case with sections now 12mm thick and a separate power supply. The separate redesigned supply utilizes separate analogue and digital circuits. Custom audio-grade toroidal transformers are employed to drive each section of the preamplifier, ensuring optimal performance. With each channel of the preamplifier having its own dedicated power supply, enhancing channel separation.
The minimalist front panel features controls for; Power, Volume, Mute, Balance, Record/ Menu, Phase/ Edit and selection of seven inputs with additional control available via RS232 connector or the supplied hand held remote. Each channels rear panel connectivity includes; seven unbalanced RCA and three balanced XLR inputs, three unbalanced RCA and three balanced XLR outputs with support for two unbalanced tape monitor outputs. Separate signal ground and earth binding posts are available on both the pre-amplifier and separate power supply.
This latest model showcases Goldmund’s ‘No-screw-design’ and updated enclosure that is available in silver grey or matte black. You can also customize the Memisis Reference pre-amplifier with a gold top left front ring.
