Electrocompaniet, the Norwegian HiFi manufacturer has announced the launch of a new mono only power amplifier, the Electrocompaniet AW 300 M. This latest mono-block Class A/B power amplifier builds on the features of the AW 800 M but with just a single channel has a maximum output of 1000 watts into 2 ohms and a more compact form factor, making it easier to integrate into many high-end audio systems.

The AW 300 M is designed around Electrocompaniet’s  fully discrete, true-balanced, Class AB design that uses direct-coupled, high open-loop bandwidth topology, now enhanced with high slew-rate and extended bandwidth amplifier stages. The output stage design “isolates the input and driver stages from the load, rendering the output exceptionally rigid and impervious to connected loads”. The technique is said to simplify the feedback system and ensure exceptionally low distortion levels proving a THD +N of 0.0006% and an IMD of < 0.001 %.

The revised and upgraded power supply now features 110,000 uF of supply filtering and an 800VA toroidal transformer that uses upgraded magnetic and electrostatic shielding, that together with the DC and RF filtered mains power effectively minimizes interference.

Improvements have also been made to the internal ground reference. It has been significantly over-dimensioned to eliminate the negative effects of rectifying and output currents, helping to provide a noise-free output signal at any power level. This is said to “translate into a stable soundstage with an unparalleled background silence”.

Upholding Electrocompaniet’s timeless and distinctive look the AW 300M sports a new front plate with a 3D logo, a redesigned power button and luxurious matte finish. While internally the chassis has undergone a ground-up reengineering, featuring a modular design construction that also includes two black brushed aluminum rods to enhance chassis rigidity.
