This latest all tube, stereo integrated amplifier from Danish manufacturer Copland, was originally displayed at the exhibition in Munich back in May 2022 and is now available, replacing the CTA408. Unlike many other Copland amplifiers this new model is not a hybrid of tubes and transistors but uses tubes throughout the signal path.

The flagship CTA407 ships with four KT88 output tubes, one pair of beam tetrodes per channel, operating in push-pull ultra-linear mode, plus a pair of 12BH7 and a single ECC83 for the pre-amp and phase splitter stages, all of which are powered by three large custom toroidal transformers.

The base KT88’s provide 2×50 W of Class A/AB power into both 8 and 4 ohms, with the output stage operating in pure Class A over part of its power range. Harmonic distortion is said to not exceed 0.5% at all power levels, the operating frequency range extends from 10 Hz to 150 kHz (-3 dB), signal-to-noise ratio >100 dB and all with a minimal feedback of 18dB.

The Copland CTA407 allows you to use any model from the 6550/KT88/KT100/KT120/KT150 family as output tubes without any manual biasing. The new fully automatic biasing and diagnostic system takes all the worry out of this operation, displaying each tube’s current state on a bank of front-panel LEDs which can be turned off if required.

Rear panel input connectivity uses stereo, unbalanced RCA connectors that includes; four line level and one line level tape loop. Vinyl enthusiasts are also taken care of with the built-in tube RIAA phono stage that supports moving magnet (MM) and high output moving coil (MC) cartridges.

The amplifier is equipped with a motorized volume control and relay input selector, allowing operation via its front panel or the supplied IR remote control (RC102A). Finally the CTA407 is offered in both silver and black versions.
