Made to celebrate Audio Technica’s 60th anniversary this limited production run, dual moving coil cartridge, sports a unified stylus-cantilever, formed from a single, lab-grown diamond.
The AT-MC2022 promises cutting-edge technology for analogue audio vinyl enthusiasts and is the result of the company’s 60 years of research and development.
Audio Technica claims that the integrated unified line contact profile stylus and 0.22 mm cantilever, both formed out of a single, lab-grown diamond using the CVD (chemical vapor deposition) process, eliminates the distortion caused by conventional bonding of the stylus to cantilever. Thus allowing for a purer transmission of the groove movement from the vinyl to the coils, creating a sharp, vibrant soundscape.
According to Yosuke Koizumi, Cartridge Engineer at Audio-Technica:- “One of the most outstanding sound characteristics of the AT-MC2022 is its fast transient response thanks to the vibration propagation of the unified diamond cantilever. The sound profile is perfectly positioned between two speakers, providing a clear audio reproduction for avid listeners and connecting you closer to your favorite records.”
The body of the cartridge is made from titanium and aluminum with an elastomer undercover that is said to reduce unwanted resonances. It sports black accents on cartridge body that are inspired by traditional shippo enameling (Japanese cloisonné) and uses hand crafted Ion plating that achieves both high durability and a stunning mirror finish.
The body includes threaded holes for easy mounting and comes with appropriate tools and screw set. Improved electrical connectivity has been provide by the use high-quality gold terminals that have a plating 30 times thicker than conventionally used, thereby reducing contact resistance.
Weighing in at 9.6gm, the AT-MC2022 uses a highly efficient magnetic circuit that results in a greater magnetic flux density creating an output voltage of 0.55 mV (1kHz, 5 cm/sec). Frequency response is a stellar 20Hz-50KHz, channel separation is listed as 30 dB (1kHz), with output channel balance within 0.5 dB.
Finally the AT-MC2022 comes in a specially designed walnut storage case, featuring acrylic window with laser-engraved 60th anniversary logo and serial number. In addition the packaging uses a traditional Japanese Echizen Washi paper.
