Rega Launch the Ania Pro MC Cartridge

Rega, a highly respected British Hi-Fi manufacture, has added a new cartridge option to boost the performance of its mid-range Planar turntables.

The new £750 Ania Pro moving coil model sits between the Ania ($795.00) and the Apheta 2 ($1,895.00) cartridges, the latter which is now superseded by the Apheta 3 comes as standard with the Rega Planar 10 turntable.

The Ania Pro is fitted with a nude diamond stylus that sports their advanced Vital profile to help extract as much detail from the vinyl surface as possible. It moves a rhomboid pivot cantilever and micro coil, which is hand wound to an iron micro cross sat within a magnetic field generated by a super high-powered, neodymium magnet.

Rega claims this results in a dynamic and detailed performance, tight bass, warm midrange and high frequency accuracy.

The parts are fitted into a cartridge body which is machined from a single aluminum block and the body is protected by a red colored polymer/glass housing which sets the stylus overhang position.

The Ania Pro’s red body uses a unique polymer/40% glass combination called Polyphenylene Sulphide (PPS-Fortron). The special attributes of this material are its hardness, stability in shape and dimension post moulding, both critical for the performance of Ania. Its production requires the use of some of the most sophisticated molding techniques currently available.

Rega’s Moving Coil cartridge design is unique in its approach to achieving an ultra-low mass generator which is undamped (no tie wire), using a unique rhomboid pivot for the cantilever powered by a purpose designed, and exclusive to Rega, Neodymium magnet system.

Weighing in at only 6 grams the cartridge is one of the worlds smallest MC cartridges. It comes factory fitted to the Planar 6 and Planar 8 turntables but can be purchased separately.
