Yamaha has announced a new firmware update for its current AVENTAGE AV receiver lineup, enabling certified Works with Sonos integration. The firmware update brings seamless compatibility between Yamaha’s high-end AV receivers and the popular Sonos ecosystem, further expanding their multi-room and smart control credentials. What is particularly notable about this upgrade is that it does not replace Yamaha’s own MusicCast multi-room streaming platform, allowing users to select either, with all existing MusicCast features and streaming support remain intact, with setup and control still available via the Yamaha MusicCast app.

At launch these receivers were a little short on their promised full-range of features. However, with HDMI 2.1 ports supporting 8K , Yamaha have continued to provide a number of firmware updates that have rounded out this range of premium AVR’s features.

This latest free firmware and app upgrade are both available now. The new functionality supports all four current AVENTAGE models; RX-A8A, RX-A6A, RX-A4A and RX-A2A. When connected to a Sonos Port, users can power on their Yamaha receiver, switch to the correct input, and control volume directly from the Sonos app, making for a more unified home audio experience.
