WiiM Amp Ultra – First Look

WiiM have announced the WiiM Amp Ultra, a high-performance streaming amplifier. Encased in a sleek unibody aluminum chassis with a 3.5 inch glass touchscreen, it delivers 100W per channel into 8Ω or 200W into 4Ω of “ultra-low distortion and rich, audiophile-grade sound.”
Built using audiophile components throughout, the WiiM Amp Ultra arrives with a 32-bit/384kHz ESS ES9039Q2M SABRE DAC, dual TI TPA3255 Class-D amp chips, and six TI OPA1612 op-amps. Plus its Post Filter Feedback (PFFB) technology is claimed to “further enhances load-independent performance across all speaker types, delivering cleaner sound and improved amplifier control, especially for complex loads.” Resulting in a a -106 dB THD+N rating and 120 dB SNR at 5W.
The WiiM Amp Ultra is ready for 5.1 home cinema due to the included Dolby Digital decoding, HDMI ARC, and a dedicated subwoofer output. Plus it includes; access to 24 preset EQ profiles, a 10-band graphic and parametric EQ with input-specific settings, and built-in room correction.
Wireless connectivity is available using Wi-Fi 6E, Bluetooth 5.3 with LE Audio for wireless streaming, and the WiiM Amp Ultra supports Google Cast, Alexa Cast, DLNA, Spotify Connect, and TIDAL Connect, as well as streaming services such as Spotify, Amazon Music, TIDAL, Qobuz, and more via the WiiM Home App.
Control is available using the 3.5-inch glass-covered touchscreen and multifunctional dial offering playback control of; input switching, EQ settings, queue view, custom wallpapers, VU meters, Smart Preset, Recently Played, Internet Radio, and more. Alternatively you may use Alexa, Google Assistant, and the WiiM Voice Remote 2 for hands-free playback and system control. It also pairs easily with the new WiiM Sound smart speakers, Sub Pro and WiiM streamers.
Connectivity includes; 1 x stereo RCA line level inputs, 1 x optical input, 1 x HDMI ARC, 1 x RJ45 Network, 1 x USB and 1 x RCA subwoofer out. Speaker connectivity is provided on two pairs of binding posts.
