Vinyl Sales Up 94% In 2021
Vinyl continues to manage a remarkable resurgence.
After yet another year of lock down in 2020 vinyl seems to be continuing its exceptional winning streak in 2021. The Record Industry Association of America (RIAA) has just posted its mid-year music revenue report, showing that in the first half of 2021, revenues from vinyl albums grew 94 per cent to $467 million in the USA. This is despite the ongoing impact of COVID 19 and the delayed RSD 2020 that turned into three virtual RSD Drops.
CD sales also increased during the first half of 2021 to $205 million, a growth of 44%, taking just 30% of the USA physical media market with vinyl sales taking the remaining 67%. Despite this excellent growth physical media sales still only account for 10% of all music sales.
Music streaming formats continues to grab the lions share of the music market growing 26% to $5.9 billion during the same 6 month 2021 period. This format accounting for 84% of total music revenues during this period.
Don’t forget the upcoming RSD Vinyl Black Friday on November 11th, 2021.
