Vertere DG X Turntable – First Look

Vertere have just released the DG X turntable that is an upgrade to their existing ‘entry-level’ belt-driven DG-1 model. The belt-drive DG X table is available in three finishes — gloss black, red, and white — and is fitted with the company’s Groove Runner X tonearm and Sabre Lite MM cartridge. The upgrades include improvements to its; main bearing, motor, plinth and suspension.
The table’s precision-machined aluminum alloy platter incorporates an aluminum disc and a PETG bonded mat that’s said to keep resonance “under control,” while a protective cork/neoprene/nitrile mat is said to add further vinyl support and damping. The platter spins on DG X’s super-precision machined, non-magnetic stainless-steel main bearing assembly that features a mirror-polished spindle, brass alloy main-bearing housing and a tungsten carbide thrust ball. The bearing is lubricated for long-term use.
The platter is driven by a silicon belt wrapped around a machined aluminum pulley that sits atop an AC “Precision Synchronous” low-voltage motor that was derived from the RG-1 flagship; an internal microprocessor and D/A converter precisely generate the sine and cosine signals required for consistent rotational speed which are then amplified to drive the motor using two bridged-balanced amplifiers that support both 33 and 45 RPM electronically selectable speeds via the top panel switch. A separate dedicated DC-2 30V DC desktop power supply is included together with a detachable mains cable.
The DG X features a new three-layer acrylic plinth that features internal illumination and uses an isolated sub-plinth to reduce unwanted resonance. A steel chassis supports the motor and electronics, and together with the sub-plinth is designed to keep vibrations away from the vinyl record. The design comes with with three adjustable feet for precise levelling and a tinted non-resonant acrylic dust cover is included.
The included tonearm is Vetere’s Grooverunner X (GR X). It features; a five-layer sandwich design that reduces the resonance issues associated with tubular tonearms, a tri-point-articulated bearing system with three captive precision silicon nitride balls with VTA-adjustable non-magnetic bearing point, adjustable stainless weight/thread progression across the LP, azimuth compensating stainless weight, removable arm beam with magnetic arm rest, lift/lower mechanism, static insulated lift/lower arm and non-resonant TA bearing pillar. The counterweight system allowing for accurate azimuth and tracking adjustments. The tonearm uses Pulse wiring to gold-plated RCA output sockets that have selectable shielding (signal, chassis or floating). It is available without a cartridge or can be factory fitted with Vertere’s own Sabre Lite MM, Dark Saber MM or Mystic II MC cartridges, at additional charge. The arm is designed to be removable for safer turntable transit.
Finally, rear panel connectivity includes; stereo unbalanced gold plated RCA outputs and grounding support, plus a 30VDC input for the separate DC-2 power supply.
