TEAC have recently introduced the UD-507, DAC/Preamp/Headphone Amplifier, a completely redesigned version of the earlier 500 series. This latest design comes with their proprietary TEAC Reference Discrete DAC (TRDD5) and several other features to include; a High Current Line Driver (HCLD2) for the headphone output stage and pre-amplifier buffer, a Quad Volume Control System (QVCS) driving its high precision volume control and a digital upsampling engine referred to as Refined Digital Output Technology NEO (RDOT-NEO).

The UD-507 is a headphone amplifier featuring the HCLD2 that is characterized by its high current supply capability. Supporting up to 1.2 Watts (into 100 Ohms) of headphone drive from the front panel’s three headphone sockets – single-ended quarter inch, 4.4mm balanced, XLR balanced – whose output can be adjusted via three gain settings: Low, Mid and High.

The circuit design is dual-mono and balanced from input to output, supporting both balanced XLR and unbalanced RCA on the rear panel via its QVCS high precision analog volume attenuator and the HCLD2 high current line buffer circuits. Digital connectivity is provided via three additional rear panel and one front panel inputs.

An unusual feature of this design is the DAC which is not built around an off-the-shelf audiophile DAC chip. This all in-house discrete design is designated TRDD5 and supports; MQA, 32bit/384kHz PCM and DSD512 with access over the air via the LDAC and aptX HD Bluetooth input.

Front panel headphone connectivity supports; a 1/4” (6.3mm) TRS stereo jack, an  XLR 4pin jack and a 4.4mm 5-pole Pentaconn jack all of which are gold plated. A USB-C is also to be found here for direct playback from USB storage devices. Rear panel connectivity includes; asynchronous Bulk-PET USB-B for PCs and Macs, coaxial and TOSLINK, plus a 10MHz BNC input.

Control and setup is available using the front panel buttons, rotary controls and display plus the supplied RC-1341 IR remote, with hard-wired control available via its 12VDC trigger out.

Finally, the UD-507 is available in either black or silver finishes.
