German audiophile manufacturer T+A has launched two new products in their R Series; the MP 2000 R G3 and MP 2500 R G3 multi-source players, both featuring their new  Audiophile Streaming Architecture (ASA) G3. This latest streaming architecture is also available as an update/upgrade to the previous MP 2000 R MK II and MP 2500 R models. The 2000 supports CD only playback while the 2500 supports both CD and SACD playback. Both of these new models will be available in anodized silver and anodized black.

The Audiophile Streaming Architecture (ASA) of this third generation is the audiophile connection to the connected world. Its network boards process incoming WLAN, LAN, and USB master mode signals, allowing the MP 2000/2500 R G3 to access streaming services like; Tidal, Deezer, qobuz, Amazon Music, Spotify Connect and Tidal, local network files up to 384/32 (HD) as well as incoming streams from mobile devices via Connect or AirPlay services in audiophile quality. In addition to convenient Connect services, these players also offer the option to play uncompressed Flac files via aptX Bluetooth technology. The ASA G3 architecture is also now capable of playing DSD files natively from the network. For the highest quality playback, this stream is passed on to the T+A True-1Bit converter, which processes DSD files in their native bitstream without any loss of quality.

Supported streaming services include; airable radio and podcasts, Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music HD, high-res audio, Tidal connect, Spotify connect, Apple AirPlay2, Plays with Audirvana, Roon (Currently not yet Roon certified). With an extensive range of formats including; MP3, AAC, OGG-Vorbis, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, DFF, DSF, PCM 32 >>384 KHz-16/24 Bit; MP3 320 KBit and DSD64/128/256. Supported media servers include; UPnP 1.1, UPnP AV and DLNA compatible Server, Microsoft Windows Media Connect Server (WMDRM10), DLNA compatible servers

The major difference between the two models is that the 2500 offers both SACD and CD disc media playback using its high-end double laser system SACD drive. The 2500 drive supports the playback of both CD (PCM 44.1 Kbps) and SACD (DSD 64 2.8 MHz), its mass-damped and well shielded housing rejects any external interference and is said to use “heavy-duty mounting plates, dual pushrods, and whisper-quiet motors”, to “guarantee flawless playback” and “discs to be read at their very best”. While the 2000 uses a heavy-duty Mabuchi motor, floating sub-chassis, two stainless-steel pushrods and aluminum-ABS laminate tray, ensuring “superior playback quality”. It is housed within a resonance-damped aluminum enclosure also being shielded from any external noise that could disrupt the laser unit’s precision.

The analogue output stage is a double-mono design that is galvanically isolated from the digital section by means of jitter-free transformers and provides up to a 100KHz bandwidth. This arrangement is said to ensure that external source devices cannot deliver interference. Frequency response extends from 2Hz up to 100KHz depending upon sample rate, both use a phase-linear filter and have a THD of < 0.001 %.

Jitter is dealt with in two stages, the first extracts the basic clock signal and is cleaned-up in a PLL system. A microprocessor then monitors that clock signal and selects and controls the local Master Clock that is generated by two separate quartz oscillators: one for the clock family 44.1/88.2/176.4/352.8 kHz, and one for 48/96/192/384 kHz. Once the clock has been generated, the PCM data are converted by the quadruple converter. The converter is based on a high-performance 56-bit signal processor, and offers four switchable oversampling algorithms. Each channel is assigned four of the latest 32-bit converter chips in a quadruple, double symmetrical circuit, which compensates very accurately for any lack of linearity, and reduces the residual noise. DSD data arriving via the PC USB uses a unique T+A True 1-bit DSD converter that is said to be “a genuine analogue single-bit converter”.
