T+A Announces Symphonia Streaming Amplifier

T+A (Theory & Application) have announced the Symphonia, a new high-end retro-styled streaming amplifier that provides 125wpc into 8 Ohms (250wpc into 4 Ohms) from an in-house customized PURIFI Eigentakt Class D amplifier module. The design is said to merge T+A’s very latest in streaming technology, digital to analogue conversion and amplification with an industrial design, from phased front panels to hand assembled VU-meters. There is even support for an FM and DAB tuner. It is available in a silver or black finish.
There is no disclosure as to what DAC model was deployed but we are told that there are Double Differential-Converters using two 32-Bit Sigma-Delta DAC’s per channel in use. The design features separate pathways for PCM and DSD data streams, the latter using a dedicated 1-bit converter. PCM sample rates cover 44.1 to 768 KsPS with support for DSD64 thro DSD512. PCM word lengths of 16-24 bit are supported together with upsampling.
Besides the wired connectivity, the Symphonia is built around T+A’s “Audiophile Streaming Architecture” (ASA G3) over Ethernet or wi-fi with the corresponding app supporting; Tidal, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music HD, Tidal connect, Spotify connect, Apple Airplay2*, Plays with Audirvana and Roon*, as well as high-resolution local network files up to 384/32 (HD) and DSD 256 natively. (* certification in progress). Hi-res doesn’t end there as the USB DAC mode supports resolutions up to 768/32 PCM and DSD512. Various media servers are also supported to include; UPnP 1.1, UPnP AV and DLNA compatible models.
Streaming file formats supported include; MP3, AAC, OGG-Vorbis, FLAC, WAV, AIFF, ALAC, DFF, DSF, PCM 32–384 KHz, 16/24 Bit; MP3 bis 320 kBit and DSD64; DSD128; DSD256. Symphonia’s Bluetooth interface supports Qualcomm’s aptX HD in both directions – as a streaming input and as an output to Bluetooth headphones. Note that while FLAC files are supported using aptX HD it uses a lossy compression algorithm and will therefore discard data in the process.
The whole design is powered by T+A’s Sine power supply, about which the website says; “With its pure sine wave and a frequency more than twice as high as traditional power supplies, it effectively neutralizes interference.”
Control is available using the two front front panel rotary controls and various buttons with signal level displayed by the two retro-style VU meters and signal/music information displayed on the built-in display. Plus, the T+A MusicNavigator G3 App is available for both iOS and Android operating systems.
Rear panel signal connectivity includes; two sets of analogue RCA inputs; a phono input that supports MM and high-output MC cartridges; TOSLINK and coaxial digital inputs; two USB-C inputs, one for USB DACs and one for USB storage device; an HDMI ARC socket for TV hook-ups, pre-amplifier outputs and two subwoofer outputs that are low-pass filtered at 250Hz. Speaker connectivity is available on two pairs of gold-plated binding posts while wired headphones are supported by the front panels 1/4″ socket.
