StormAudio Adds Dirac Live Active Room Treatment

First demonstrated at the CES 2023 show, Dirac’s Live Active Room Treatment (ART) is now available for all StormAudio ISP processors with firmware 4.5 and higher and is included at no additional fee on any products purchased January 1, 2023 onward. Dirac also sells licenses for products purchased prior to that date.
Dirac’s Live Active Room Treatment is a new approach to tackling room acoustics and in particular decay times. ART leverages Dirac’s capabilities in MIMO (Multiple Input Multiple Output) mixed-phase impulse response correction by using all speakers in a surround sound system to work with each other to accomplish what passive acoustic treatments struggle to achieve, spatial optimization. In doing so it is said to achieve what conventional acoustic treatments, in particular bass traps, have difficulty in creating; short bass decay times that provide a clearer sound without boomy, smeared bass and any unwanted room resonances.
ART achieves this optimization by essentially turning every speaker into an active acoustical treatment. Which according to DIRAC and StormAudio means that there is no need for bulky passive absorber treatments below 150Hz in order to achieve resonance free, clean bass. Furthermore, this optimization is said to be effective; with no subs or a single sub, while with multiple subwoofers in play, “expect the system to make magic, delivering an immersive and balanced soundfield”.
The ART module requires a new version (3.6.5) of the Dirac Live tool (MacOS & Windows available) plus an ISP firmware upgrade to 4.5RO. Both are now available.
This is all great news for StormAudio’s customers who’s ISP platform was designed to be future-proof due to its modular and flexible upgradeability of hardware and software.
The ART module upgrade will remain a StormAudio exclusive until Q4 of 2023.
