All ‘Star Wars’ feature films will be available on 4K Blu-ray during March
By March 31st all eleven Star Wars movies should be available digitally and in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos sound. No mention of Dolby Vision yet, so assume HDR10. This includes the the release of the final chapter in the Star Wars saga –The Rise Of Skywalker, which is scheduled to arrive on March 31st on both HD and 4K Blu-ray

As a Star Wars fan family we hope that this higher resolution, improved clarity and higher dynamic range, together with the re-mixed sound will “wring” out just a little more enjoyment to top up our already overflowing glasses. Alas we are not going to be get the original theatrical cuts of the original trilogy, though. The original trilogy movies – A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi – will be the Special Edition versions. Apparently they needed a little “work” in order to clean them up.

If all that isn’t enough the package also includes the HD Blu-ray versions, codes for digital downloads, nine discs of extras providing 26 hours of additional viewing, the booklet and a brief letter signed “May the force be with you….always.” by the legendary Marc Hamill (Luke Skywalker).

So for all you die hard Star Wars fans there isn’t much time left to save up for what is going to be an expensive day for many of us and a wonderfully profitable day for Disney and George Lucas.

So let me count the number of ways I love you Star Wars. Versions of this saga I have bought in my lifetime:

  1. The VHS’s
  2. The Special Editions VHS’s
  3. The Laserdiscs
  4. The DVD’s
  5. The Special Editions DVD’s
  6. The Blu-ray’s – HD and 4K
  7. Finally the 4KUHD’s…..but is it final?
  8. Will we see the theatrical 4K Special Edition versions released? Looking at history and knowing Disney, you sure will.

Yes, and I still have them all, I just cannot play the laserdiscs as I have no player now.
