Spendor Launches Mark 2 A-Line Loudspeakers

Spendor has just announced four new A-Line speakers that have been redesigned and optimized featuring; refined crossovers, internal bracing, drivers and more. They consist of one sealed standmount and three reflex floorstanding designs. Each model is available in a; Black Oak, Walnut, Oak or Satin White finish.

All models benefit from new internal bracing together with a constrained damping layer of Sorbothane, minimizing unwanted vibrations that can color the sound, improving stereo imaging and soundstage placement. While all the floor standing models have optimized port tuning and improved cabinet airflow, all of which we are told improves timing and accuracy helping create tighter, more well-defined bass.

Both the A4.2 and A7.2 arrive with a new 1 inch (27mm) tweeter that uses a soft polyamide dome wide surround rear-chambered design, said to deliver “a more open, dynamic, and natural high-frequency response.” All cabinets use Spendor’s proprietary, and now refined, EP77 polymer bass/mid cone that has undergone suspension updates in order to reduce transient ringing and create a more balanced and well-timed response. Plus the EP77 spiders have been redesigned, improving cone control for better a transient response.

The A4.2 and A7.2 also benefit from an upgraded crossover network enhancing driver integration and overall performance. The simplified crossover design has lowered the crossover point, which Spendor claims achieves a more coherent and natural sound with improved stereo imaging and smoother off-axis response.
